In one day, I saw Angelina Jolie in Cannes and ate pizza in Ventimiglia, Italy. Cannes, Antibes, Nice, Monte-Carlo and Ventimiglia are all along the Mediterranean Sea and I, for some reason, thought it was a good idea to see them all in one day lol. Granted I'm staying in Nice so including it isn't really fair.
I started the day in Cannes, because the film festival is on right now. I took pictures at the Croisette red carpet, walked past many areas in which I could not go in (I didn't have a registered pass, meaning I couldn't see a movie either), and tried to find paparazzi lol. The paparazzi know where the famous are, you see. The first group I saw was waiting at the Carlton hotel that had Kung Foo Panda 2 posters up... And that means Angelina Jolie, Jack Black and Dustin Hoffman! I got a decent spot for a fan. They were throwing panda hats to us but i didn't catch one :( I waited about 25 minutes and they came for what they call a photocall. I wasn't sure what to expect.. And it lasted like 5 minutes. There was a lot of yelling "Jack! To the left! Over here!" Lots of fancy cameras and lenses... It's too bad I was so low because I was so busy on my tippy toes trying to get pictures that it all went so fast! First out was the huge panda (suit). He was so huge he blocked the actors sigh. Then we saw Jack Black, who actually came to our side of the balcony for a picture op and i got a great one of him! It was really great of him. To be honest I didn't even know Dustin Hoffman was in the movie so I thought people were saying "Justin." Anyway I saw him and the back of Angelina Jolie. Angelina really likes wearing tan and taupe for some reason. Anyway she never came over but I kept at my picture taking and got one decent picture!! And a couple meh ones. You can see her famous tattoo in the pics as well (she just added Brad's birth place coordinates, to go along with her kids' coordinates.) She is a bit taller than Jack and her legs are so skinny! Dustin Hoffman was next. He stayed there the longest, taping and taking pics of the crowd with his phone, which was cool. I got some good ones of the graduate ;) lol.
It was exciting!! I saw my celebrities! I was happy. Afterwards I went to the hotel Martinez which had more paparazzi and fans. One guy named Henry came out and did some autographs. The girl next to me said he was either a French actor or a philosopher lol- I'll have to google it.
Afterwards I went back to the Croisette. Still quiet except for pass holders waiting to get into their movies. I was really hoping to see a red carpet or another photosll as I've seen past years in the press, but the press area was empty the entire time I was there. I decided to see some of Cannes beyond the Croisette so I walked into old town. There is a castle museum at the top of the hill, so, as I 'student' I went in, 20 minutes before closing, for free lol. There was some cool artifacts and paintings of the Mediterranean, but I sort of whizzed by them because there was a tower and a view waiting! More stairs, then a wonderful view of Cannes. It was such a beautiful day and a great view!! Walking down, I walked through some adorable narrow streets.
By this time it was after 1 and the Croisette was still empty so I decided to move on. I felt like a had seen it all and it was either wait until like 7 pm or travel on.
The next stop was really close, Antibes. I thought I would go to the beach here because it's smaller, less crowded and there is sand (Nice's beach has rocks.) I walked past the port and saw another castle type building on a hill. There was also a really cute antique market open. I finally reached the beach and took a dip in the Mediterranean. It was lovely- cold though. Walking back to the station a bit more tan, I walked through some touristy walking streets full of shops and cafes. Antibes was really cute.
Next it was to Monte-Carlo Monaco- my second country of the day. I seriously thought Monte- Carlo was a small town with a casino. Needless to say, I was wrong. It is big, it's between (and uh on) the mountains and the sea, and it's *beautiful*!!! The buildings are colorful and gorgeous, there is a huge port that had several cruise ships around and there is- you guessed it- a castle on a hill. Actually it's old town, so I headed there. Amazing views! The clouds were low, meandering onto the buildings high up on the hills. This is where the palace was, and the old town that now holds tourist shops. There is also an amazingly beautiful church (the priest came out to say hi to a child, so cute) and a beautiful building that houses institut oceanographique musee. I decided to walk around the old city and ended up seeing some pretty gardens and a small theatre. After getting lost for a minute, I found my way back to the train station. No I didn't go to the casino lol. I looked at the map at the train station and it was in the opposite direction of the old town. Oh well, I wasn't dressed fancy enough anyway. Apparently they are a little fussy there, especially in the evening.
I decided to go to Ventimiglia because it was do close, and (I'll admit it), I wanted to see 3 countries in a day. Honestly there wasn't much to see in the town. I did a quick walk around. Stores were mostly closed and it was getting dark. Plus all the italian i know is thank you 'grazie.' So I went back to the train station for a slice of some margherita pizza. Yummy and so cheap! Finally back on the train, burnt, sweaty and exhausted, I was ready for bed in Nice. Unfortunately when I got back I saw all these people dressed up, going to Cannes. I wanted to go back, but I settled on going again another day. Not like I could get into those parties anyway. You need to look fancy and have an invitation or blatantly lie lol.
It was a great day!!
More on Nice soon.
