The Big Game
Undulating terrain became a steady stream of towns held together by Istanbullu holiday retreats. Many of the buildings go right up the very edge of the Marmara Sea, with the waves beating against their back doors. Despite that, the countryside is somewhat grim (indeed it has been all the way from the border) but that is made up for by the friendliness of all the people we pass who peep and cheer us on, with kids on buses waving and shouting hello.
In Silivri, with its pretty harbour, we met Eduran, a local dentist, who invited us to go sit in his house, drink some things, eat some things and watch the Galtasaray-Fenerbahce derby with him and his friends. A keen cyclist, he'd seen our bikes and wanted to know all about our trip. Sadly, we were in no fit state to socialise, and so he bid us farewell warning us about the roads coming up into Istanbul, where "the drivers have no mercy" and that, like all big cities, there were "some good people and some not so good people" - vultures, vultures everywhere!
Day 79.17km (Total 3577.2km)
