Despite adverse weather conditions in the UK we got away on time and without much inconvenience. It was a great surprise to see Alan(former work colleague) and Angela Byers at the Heathrow Boarding Gate who were travelling to Sydney for a family Xmas. Winter weather in Hong Kong suited us fine (21c) and in addition to visting sites we had seen around 10 years ago on our last vist we took cable car to Big Budda on Lantau Island, visited Heritage Museum in Northern Terrotries and took a ferry for a day to Cheng Chau where we walked round most of the island and enjoyed a long lazy sea food lunch. On penultimate day in HK and waiting for sunset at Kowloon waterfront I introduced myself to Jeremy Paxman who was with crew filming for a forthcoming series for the BBC. Had an interesting chat but Indra had long since scarpered and accused me of social climbing. Flew to Bangkok on Airbus 380 (double decker) without incident and encountered our first problem of the trip so far when our prepaid transfer to hotel was not to be found. As it was 12.30am took taxi instead and next day Indra negotiated a fabulous room upgrade as compensation. Only two days here but have visited Reclining Budda Temple, Marble Temple and Golden Temple (5 ton solid gold budda), Grand Palace and taken long boat on the canal system. Preparing for a long train journey!
