Round the Churches Ride (Ride and Stride)
We are always keen to take part in this ride and this year was no exception. We did have a few complications- a six year old who had not cycled on the road before, a convalescent member who only wanted a short ride and a number of absent Ragstones either away on holiday or about to go.
Eventually seven of us made it to Lympne Church to sign on. Ruth and John started off via Aldington, Jessica and Adonis set off for Bonnington and Peter, Rosemary and Sophia drove to Bonnington to meet up.
Bonnington was buzzing with activities, exhibitions and lots of people we knew, as part of a celebratory Harvest Weekend. Great cakes, bric a brac and the Church decorated with flowers and photos meant we were reluctant to leave. Sophia was fascinated by a hot dog and an unusual cat and mouse. Eventually we remembered that we were supposed to cycle to more than one church, and set off for Bilsington.
At Bilsington Sophia started her first road experience riding down Tarpot Lane to Ruckinge and back. Nine kilometres, not bad when your legs are going round about five times to everyone else's one. Apart from a slight mishap with a kerb, all went very well and we welcome her now as riding member of the Ragstones.
Ruckinge as usual was full of cyclists, cakes and chat. We all enjoyed lunch and meeting old friends before returning home via Bilsington to pick up the Land Rover for some of us while Adonis, Ruth and John stayed on their bikes. Complicated logistics but another Churches Ride successfully accomplished.
