So guys we finally arrived in Bangkok yesterday! We got to the hotel at 19.38 (to be precise) which is approx 13.38 your time.
We had an uneasy start, which has been the general consensus when me and dave have ever gone on holiday.
First of all, whilst waiting at the train station, with approx 15 mins to go before it was due to leave it got cancelled, though some staff said it was, some said it wasn't. We didn't know what to do! In the end we got a taxi, but the A63 diverted us through south cave, howden and finally rejoined the M62 at Goole approx 45 mins later!! Not doing to much for our nerves. Anyway we made it to the airport on time thinking everything was fine. But there was another twist in the story. When checking in we got asked for our visas, which we knew we didn't require. However, due to us travelling and not having a scheduled flight out of Thailand and therefore no proof that we would leave in the 30 day limit given at customs they weren't going to let us on the plane until we booked a said flight. Talk about stressful. In the end they accepted our next scheduled flight from Bali to Darwin and made us fill in a disclaimer to say we would pay any charges incurred if we stayed outside of our visa length. Parting words to keep us on edge for our 15 hour journey though was that they might not accept us at this end without the proof of departure.
Getting off the plane and walking to immigration we were pretty nervous but sailed through no problems at all, phew!!
We paid 400 baht (which is approx 9.50) for our 45 minute taxi ride to our hotel and arrived safely.
Our hotel is nice, in a good location, down a bustling little street, but no noise, so easy to sleep. So easy in fact that we have slept for nearly 12 hours, waking up at 12.25 today.
Last night we had a walk round the local area and found Khao San Road (the backpackers area). We ate pad thai for our tea from a cart on the side of the road, it cost us approx 1.80 for both of us (think were going to have enough money lol!!!) and i accomplished eating with chop sticks, woohoo (very proud of myself!).
Today (with not having much time because of getting up so late) we have had another walk around to get our bearings and when i have finished here were going to go hang round the pool for a couple of hours!
Everywhere we go we are pestered by tuk-tuk drivers who want to take you "sightseeing" and make a very annoying popping sound with their mouths to get your attention. Our plan is to buy a small souvenir tuk-tuk so we can show them we've already got one, lol!
Were feeling very excited about everything and at the moment nerve free!
Love to you all xx
I will update again soon xxx
p.s the picture os of the Grand Palace which were hoping to visit tomorrow.
