Hello children everywhere,
Well, we're actually back in Wellington again, as we have now completed the South Island - so back to Auckland we go! We have also decided to hire a camper van to explore some of the coast, as it is far cheaper than our tour, so that'll be quite amusing...I dont think I will drive much, and Tom is happy to get motoring to game on. Looks like I will be peeing in bushes very soon. Excellent.
So, we arrived in Picton after crossing over on the ferry, then headed to Nelson, West Port, Lake Mahinapua, Franz Josef, Wanaka, Queenstown, Christchurch and Kaikoura. Its very different to the North Island - far colder and very mountainesk - everywhere you look there is a couple of snow topped mountain ranges in the background - truely a breath taking sight!
We walked 21km through the Abel Tasman, near Nelson, which was soooooooo good, however I accidently cracked my already sore toenail (from the other hike we did) on a root and it sort of blead everywhere, BUT I DIDNT FAINT!! I was very proud of myself and its all better now. Dr Tom wrapped it up and I am now able to wear shoes without whincing. Goodstuff. It did unfortunately mean that I was unable to hike Franz Joseph Glacier, which SUCKED, cos out of everything thats what I wanted to do! But Tom did it, and loved it! He's got some awesom photos! He also got to where spikey boots and use a pick axe to aid his walk, but apparently everyone just walked around and randomly attacked the ice - to be fair if I was gived a little axe to play with, whilst walking on a giant ice cube, Í'd do the same. And so would you.
So we made our way along and had a hilarious night at the Pu Pub Hostle - its was a 'P-Party', and so you had to go as something beginning with P. I went as a Prefect (complete with genuine school jumper - gotta love charity shops) and Tom went as a pregnant woman - He got quite into character and felt fragile all night, with a strange craving for gerkins. His water also broke (altho I didnt see that, thank God) and he gave birth to a pillow. doctors are baffled, but we love it so - we've called it willow. We havnt got pics, but they will be here soon, fret not. He had a wig and everything!
We cruised around with 2 other couples we met, who were muchos fun and told us about a hostle that served free soup, pop corn and movies. We came, we ate, we watched and we left. All love. When we got to queenstown, we went out for one last hoorah with the guys and checked out a local club, which served its beverages in Teapots! So many drinking games were played and many a teapot was drank! We've also had some rather spanking t-shirts made up that sum up NZ perfectly, we had them printed to say "where men are men and sheep are nervous" which is accurate. The welsh should really try harder I think.
So here we are again after an incredibly rough 3 hour ferry crossing back up to the north island - there were children vomiting everywhere and people clutching sick bags for dear life as they staggered around the decks. how we laughed. And then we started to feel rough so went and sat at the back of the boat. but we were in the bar so it was all good! So! Thats about it! I jope that everyone is well and enjoying the warm weather, its BLOODY FREEZING here, cannot wait to get to Fiji! Ha ha ha! All good then.
Take care of yourselves, and each other love from Rachy and Tom aka Captain Fish Beard and Scuba Barbie xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
