Hi Everyone, Sorry its been such a long time to get an update on - the computers have been a bit pants, but be prepared for loads of stuff now, including some pics!! So we got all the way from Sydney up to Cairns (about 2000 km) in one piece - we stopped at Bryon Bay, Surfers Paradise, Brisbane, Fraser Island, Whit Sundays, Capricorn Caves, Long Island, and then up to Cairns. Our favourite place was Bryon Bay - such a chilled out little surfing town, it was brilliant! Thats where we did Sea Kayaking. We went on this crazy four-wheel drive bus/truck thing, through Fraser Island, which is basically a sand mass, so there are no proper roads. Just enormous sandy lanes that you need a giant truck to get down - loads of other people got stuck, some of the lads had to help push them out! I decided I wouldnt be that helpful. The beach there is officially a road - they have speed cops too, oh and it doubles up as an airport for inland flights around the island!! We cruised down the beach in this massive truck thing and saw a ship wreck and then had a pj party that night. Me and 3 other chicks dressed up in matching outfits and Tom and 2 blokes did the same - also got free drinks for the effort! Our rival tour group 'Contiki' was there, so the drinking boat race began - needless to say they got their butts kicked! This theme continued throughout the tour as our paths crossed. Naturally. We covered some distance and stopped at Capricorn Caves for a few scary insect moments - HUGE bugs everywhere! We saw millions of kangaroos around there and even saw a baby Joey! We went around the caves, they were wicked, but stank of bat poo, which used to 'flow' through the caves. yum yum. There is a chapel in the caves where people get married - although we all laughed at the tackiness of this, accompanied by some eighties style wedding photos (anyone for friz and frills), the actual cave was lovely, and very atmospheric. But even so it smelt of crap. bat crap no less. We went through onto The Whit Sundays, which has been the highlight of the tour really - we went on a 50ft Sailing Yacht for 2 days and visited White Haven Beach. Its as good as it sounds chaps - the best thing about it was that we went off the beaten tourist track and checked out a load of islands that most people dont. we also went on our first reef trip - it stretches all the way up past Cairns, so we had a private little cove to explore the Reef. It was AMAZING!!!!! Its beautiful and packed with HUNDREDS of different types of fish and coral. Its the most beautiful place I have ever seen and the nicest thing about it was that we were on our own. We spent the nights star gazing - the Islands are uninhabited (bar 2 islands) so there was no city glare - making the sky crysalt clear. It was us and the milky way, chilling out with a few beers listening to Eric Clapton and Jack Johnson. Marvellous. We then met the rest of the tour kids at Long Island, which is stunning! We had a rather amusing evening and many cocktails were had. Of course the Long Island Ice Tea was a big hit. Tom now has a cocktail addiction. Oh, the beer favourite has turned from Tooheys to Victoria Bitter along this stretch! We set off for Cairns now, it was a very very long drive! But when we got there was all got very excited about going to the reef! We spent an entire day about two hours out snorkling around the reef! It ROCKED!!!!!!! We decided not to Scuba here (save it for fiji) as you can dive and swim through anyway and its very close to the surface. We went to something called a reef wall - sooooooooooooooooooooooo cool! It was huge!!!! I love the reef so much! Tom announced himself as captain fish beard and I became Scuba Barbie. A new age has started! Tom went white water rafting as well, which was brilliant and pretty hardcore - they had to get up at silly o'clock though, but it was well worth it! That night we went decided to have a few beers by the pool......which turned into a hardcore pool party. The best night of tour! We drank so much booze and played in the pluge pool till 3am - I am now a back dive professional and Tom has mastered the art of jumping in, whilst sitting on a chair. Harder than you'd think! The next day we took a sky rail through the rain forest - our mate Beth puked down the side of the carriage, much to our delight!! the look on the attendants face was priceless. We also cuddled koalas and got some wicked pics! That night we sampled some interesting food - I had shark (its delisious) and tom had......crocodile, kangaroo, barriamundi and emu. We caught a flight out to Alice springs to explore the northern territory and it seriously could not have been more different!!! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
