Rachie and Joey's Round The World Adventure!
G'Day Guys! Well we're finally in the land down under! Cant believe we're in Australia already and half way through our trip! Where do I start this time... First things first we landed in Cairns, bit of a shock to the system feeling some heat! We had the best start to our Australian adventure though thanks to two good friends of ours! We met up with Harv and Lisa on our first day which was wicked! It was so good to see some familiar faces, but also quite weird considering we're in Australia! Harv and Lisa treated us to a yummy BBQ at their 5* campsite (the only one in Oz!) so we spent the night eating, drinking and having a good old gossip! The next day we treated the guys to a spot of lunch and had a good walk around Cairns before hitting the town for a few drinks in the evening! We had a good laugh although in one bar we got a little more attention that we'd hoped for! It was a great night though, apart from having to say our goodbyes! In Cairns itself we took a trip up to Cape Tribulation with our tour guide Whales. He was a right character, had something to say about everything which kept us entertained for the whole day :) We took a boat trip along the Daintree River and saw some crocodiles ...they didnt look that real to be honest! I think I was hoping they'd move about lurking for some prey hehe! All the same, they still looked scary! We took a nice walk in the Marrdja Forest before spending a short time at Cape Tribulation! We found out too that Whales used to live in Whiteley and work for a company in Romsey, what a small world! On the way back we stopped at Alexandra Lookout and saw Snappy Island (its shaped like a crocodile!) and stopped at Mossman Gorge and Port Douglas (gorgeous town!) before heading back! After chilling in Cairns for a few days and getting ourselves sorted we stopped for a night in Mission Beach and Townsville before heading over to Magnetic Island for a few days. We stayed at Horseshoe Bay in a little place called Bungalow Bay - it was soooo nice! We had a really nice dorm room, a pool to relax by, a nice bar and had some great company :) It was in the forest so we were surrounded by wildlife, and next door we had a koala sanctuary too! One night we had some fun playing coconut bowls....I have to admit, I was shockingly bad and out on the first go! hehe! I had fun feeding the possums that kept joining us in the bar though, they're so cute! We took a tour around the koala sanctuary, here we got to hold a lizard, snake and cuddle a koala! To be fair it was more of a scared cuddle than anything...we were under strict instructions not to move our hands or else the koala could get angry (they're not as cute and cuddly as they look!). At 4.30 that day we also got to feed the local birds...oh my god what fun! We basically held out our hands with the food and got swamped by all these birds! On our arms, heads everywhere! Was really funny, I couldnt stop laughing! I had a few scratches on me afterwards but it was worth it :) We had fun one night on the beach with some great roomies we had - Tina and Katy! Really nice girls from up north, had a good giggle sitting on the beach enjoying a few drinks! We had to laugh as a very random swedish guy came and joined us (uninvited) and basically spent his time insulting us all individually and telling us we're all males with overactive hormones...we soon ran away from him :) We also met a lovely couple called Trevor and Debbie whilst staying at Bungalow Bay, had a few drinks and chatted the night away with them! I hope they've enjoyed their Australian adventure :) The weather soon turned so we headed off Magnetic Island after 4 days and headed back to Townsville for the night. I kind of wish we hadnt....this is where I was lucky enough to meet my first bed bugs! I had these random marks on my arm when I woke up in the morning, but didnt really think anything of it until I got into the sun and BOOM they were no longer little red marks, they were giant spots! Eewwww! Once we'd made it to Airlie Beach I asked the chemist what he thought it could be (by then i'd found the bites all down my right hand side, on my face, back, stomach and leg etc). Trying not to laugh he confirmed it was bedbugs and i'd had an allergic reaction - doh! Wasnt a good look trust me :) They've gone now thankfully, but im pretty sure that wont be the last time I come across them! We hit Airlie Beach and headed out on a 2 day 2 night Whitsundays sailing trip on a boat called the Broomstick. My first impression was how on earth are we all going to fit onto this boat? But there was so much room under the deck it was crazy! We had the cosiest cabin ever, no bigger than a store cupboard but we managed to fit 6 of us in there! We had a really cool crew - Willo, Judd and Andy, that made the trip really fun! I was a little scared as im not a fan of boats tipping onto their sides too much, but Im over that now as we spent most of our first day on our side! I think my face said a lot the first time we tipped to the side but after a few minutes i was used to it :) We soon got to Blue Pearl Bay and did our first lot of snorkelling (with our funky stinger suits on!). It was so much fun! Loads of colourful fish, one massive one called Elvis which was cool! Willo kept throwing food into the water so the fish came real close to us, but it was kind of freaky in a way having a fish right in your face! :) We did get to see a Dorey though and a black and white nemo which was cool! We even bumped into Katy and Tina in the water, and at this point I got the giggles I had one of those moments where I just couldnt stop, which seemed to set us all off! (god knows what the fish must have thought). We stayed on the boat that night at a place called Nara Inlet, I thought we'd be pulling up into a harbour but we just anchored off the shore where it was kind of calm! Little rocky but you get used to it :) We had a fun night getting to know each other and drinking wine! I didnt get much sleep that night due to a rather loud snorer in our room, ive never heard anything like it in my life! Snoring aside...we set off for Tongue Bay and Whitehaven Beach. I got to drive the boat that morning, it was so cool! The skipper Andy even said i'd make a good skipper one day :) Whitehaven beach itself though was out of this world! The views were spectacular, and from where we were standing we could see stingrays in the water! Quite chuffed to say i've seen one of the seven wonders of the world! We then headed to Cateran Bay for some more snorkelling which was fun, not as many fish as the day before but was still worth a look! That night we enjoyed some more wine, good food and good company! I slept perfectly that night (i think it was the wine) but it was the perfect way to end our trip! We had so much fun and the crew really were fab! We were still rocking for about 3 days after though which was pretty funny! From Airlie Beach we had a 13hour bus ride down to Hervey Bay...one heck of a drive! We treated ourselves to a nice room in our hostel, which came with a tv and dvd player - perfect! From here we headed out to Fraser Island for a 2 day safari! We decided to get a tour guide to take us around (not sure we trusted ourselves driving around the rainforest!). Ranger Greg was our dude! The bus itself was like a crazy rollercoaster! Greg warned us it would be bumpy, but this was crazy fun!! We were flying all over the show and really felt like we were going to tip over, again I couldnt stop laughing! We made a visit to Basin Lake, did a rainforest walk and went to Lake McKenzie on our first day. The scenery again was lovely! Greg treated us to some tea and muffins in the afternoon to keep our strength up which were sooooooo good! I may have over eaten at this point as he said he was going to chuck the leftovers - argh nightmare! :) We stayed in a lodge which was like the big brother house, it was really funky! Had a few drinks that night before starting our tour again nice and early in the morning! Here we did loads of driving along the beach, made a visit to the coloured sands, maheno shipwreck and made our way to Champagne Pools for lunch. It was amazing as whilst we were eating our lunch, we were watching a whale and its baby bobbing along in the ocean! After lunch we saw even more wildlife as at the top of a place called Indian Head, we were watching turtles, stingrays, whales and dolphins!! Im now sat in Hervey Bay recovering from our safari adventure :) We've only been in Oz for 3 weeks but feel like we've done loads so far! Heading further down the east coast over the next few weeks, probably not doing as much as we have been but enjoying the sites :) Ill keep you all updated guys!! Have fun! :)
