Since the last update I have become a lone traveller again!
The last few days with Rebecca were good though. On Saturday we had one more touristy thing to cross off the list which was the tram ride up through Santa Teresa - and its a good thing that was the only item because it was on everybody elses list too! We cued for 2.5 hours for the tram but there were some lovey people around us and one man saw the state of mine and Rebeccas bites and wrote down a cream we could get from the pharmacy which was very sweet ( although as it turned out one of Bex bites got really bad and started speading up her leg so she took herself to the hospital at the bottom off our road to get it sorted!) The tram ride was fun but we had´t had the foresite to realise the reason people ride it is to see the veiws which we see every day from the hostel! Never mind!! It did take us further into Santa Teresa than we had been so we headed back later and ate some traditonal Brazilian food which was nice and Bex did a bit of shopping in the craft shops.
Easter sunday we went to Copacobana for our last bit of sunshine ( we didn´t know that at the time!) It wasn´t very busy which surprised us but that was perfect for us! I got lizard tattoo done in henna in mentals memory ( I actually really love it and I´m considering getting it done for real but don´t tell mum!!) Then the dark clouds started looming and before we could get our unstolen clothes back on it was chucking it down! We headed back to the hostel a little soggy but sunkissed! We went out for food later but everywhere we´d seen before was closed but we were very brave and headed in somewhere and ordered weird fish cakey things (they are everywhere!) and some chips which were very nice! No substitute for the real thing which I am now craving! On our way back up to the hostel a rat ran ou in front of us and Rebecca literally climbed me like a tree yelling òh that´s a big one!!`It was hilarious! She´s also really good at nearly treading on the homeless people sleeping on the floor!
Monday the sun was shining in Lapa so we thought we´d head to the bech for another couple of hours in the sun but it wasn´t shining there! We came back to lapa and headed to the market area which was full of stalls and shops selling cheap clothes, jewellery and every kind of weird crap you´d never want - we loved it! Spent some money obviously then headed home! Bex got her stuff together and then we began the hideous count down waiting for the taxi! After a tearful goodbye she dissappeared around the corner leaving me to climb the bloody steps back up to the hostel! I eventually pulled myself together, had some dinner and got an early night listening to the massive storm outside.
Tuesday I headed out to the National History Museum - it was quite a walk but there was a guy from the hostel heading the same direction so we went together. The museum was good - there wasn´t alot to see but what was there was well displayed with only a few odd translations to get my head around! Stayed in the hostel chatting with a girl we met here and the receptionist - its impossible to go out here when it rains like it does so everyone stayed in!
Wednesday had a slow start - I managed to poison myself with the chicken I ate last night -which I wouldn´t have had if someone hadn´t stolen my pasta sauce! I felt very delicate after a very difficult night - and lying on a hostel bathroom floor is not as comforting as lying on your own bathroom floor - and being on the top bunk of the bunk bed is also not helpful! I eventually plucked up the courage to leave the hostel and went to the botanical gardens - it was very beautiful but I was dissapointed as I thought there should be a lot more going on - it wasn´t until I was on my home later that day that I passed the real botanical gardens! Turned out I´d been walking around some offices grounds! Woops!! I walked into Ipanema and sat ont he beach for a bit watching the massive waves crash on the shore. Spent the evening chatting to some new people in the hostel but my mixed dorm is full of boy - I´m the only girl in there and its beginning to feel a little bit odd!
Today I went to another museum about Brazilian Historical Culture . . . . .it was weird! Everything was displayed in clay models which looked like the ones James made when he was at school! I then walked back to the market and brought some Haviana flip flops and a new white top to replace my not so white top! Tonight I´m going out for dinner and dancing but having drinks with . . . . . TOMMY! ( thats for you Bex!)
Tomorrow I´m going to the real Botanical Gardens and then meeting up with a couple of girls Bex and I met here a week ago to go for dinner and then to a night market. I fly to Peru in the early hours on Saturday and so starts the next stage of the adventure!
Much Love to you all! x x x x
