The trip to Kuta was eventful. On our first minivan I had a cockroach crawling up my leg prompting me to scream "PULL OVER!" the driver just laughed so I hung my leg out of the moving van and flickered the b***** off. Next onto a mini-van without air con and an engine that heated the floor which slowly melted the bottom of our flip flops. The slow boat was SLOW. We could see Bali from the shoreline even before we got on the ferry. We seemed to be drifting more than anything else. But after three mini vans and a ferry we arrive in Kuta, a little worse for wear. It's too late at night to be searching for accommodation so we find the cheapest hotel to our drop off point and crash. In the morning we moved to something cheaper and explored the area. The place screams of tourism. The streets are lined with western and local fusion restaurants. All the big fast food giants are here plus Rachel's favourite R&W root beer restaurant. It feels like you could be at any sunny resort in the world. The place is mecca for fake DVD's. There are loads of "legitimate" shops and we did indulge buying 30 DVD's for £14!!!! The beach could do with a clean-up but it's great for surfing or as we did jumping into and over the waves for an hour or so. It may sound stupid but it was so much fun! Yes I know we're closer to thirty than three but it was the most fun I'd had at the seaside in years. We ended up attracting a group of local boys. I don't know if that was from us laughing too much or our bouncing assets. Dinner and we were very naughty going to the overpriced, gimmicky Bumba Gump restaurant (from the film Forest Gump). You'll hear calls of 'Stop Forest Stop' when a customer needs service or 'Run Forest Run' when your food is ready to be served. If you love shrimp you're in the right place and to be honest the food was good. Our waiter even performed a few magic tricks for us. If you're looking for a night out then Kuta is full of clubs. We headed to the street Poppies 2 and ended up at a club called 'Skyline'. Between 10-11pm they have a free bar and from 11-11.30pm the bar is free for ladies only. We were smiling by the end of it and merry as anything. Kuta is a place with not so much Balinese culture as drinking culture. But hey, we had fun.
