Got up nice and early this morning, before sunrise and just relaxed and got stuff packed and sorted. Reception didn't open until 9am so we had loads of time. I rang and spoke to Gran Ryan to tell her the news, who was so happy for us!!
Once reception opened we enquired about the boat to Koh Tao, she said she could ring and book the boat for us. Once she got off the phone she told us that the boat was fully booked for the rest of the day!! I got the numbers of a few other companies and rang them too but they were all fully booked. We decided to have some
breakfast, try one other company and if not decide if we wanted to go to the pier and see if we could get one, or the receptionist said we could stay another night there in a different room and book the boat for the day after! So unlike us to not be prepared!! We clearly didn't think the boat would get full like that!!
It started to get to me a little but Nath was so calm he kept me feeling okay! The full English breakfast made me feel okay as well! What ever would happen would happen! We were bound to have worse things happen on the trip! The receptionist asked if we were okay today as she had heard us excited on the balcony the day before! I showed her the ring and she was so excited for us, giving us congratulations!
She rang one more company for us and they said there was some space on a boat at 5pm, which was weird as there weren't any scheduled boats at 5. We decided to take our chances and check out. We headed in a taxi to the pier and went to the first ticket office company we could see. We enquired about a ticket to Koh Tao and we were in luck, there was space on the 1pm ferry!!! Yey!
We had a couple of hours so we had a mooch about to some shops and went to a computer shop to upload our photos. We headed to the boat in loads of time and sat waiting at pier. After waiting for ages we found out that the boat was delayed by 1 hour, which was a bit annoying, but at least we were getting one!
There were loads of people waiting for the boat and we wondered when we were getting on how they could get that many on! We luckily got some seats downstairs, which was good job! This was the worst transport so far! It was so rocky and the sea was so rough! The one the other day had nothing on this! My heart kept skipping a beat every time we hit a big wave! The boat would go so far in the air and crash back down, water hitting all the windows and the boat tipping to one side- I was so scared and couldn't wait for it to be over! Poor Nath got motion sickness and had his head in a bag pretty much all the way, along with quite a few other people on the ferry!! These ferries just do not feel safe!!!
The ferry eventually was over!! Nath survived- just! We got off and headed for our guesthouse, which was suppose to be a straight road ahead! After walking around for a while and asking a few puzzled face- I began to think the accommodation didn't exist- we were eventually sent in the right direction- the next street!!
The guesthouse looked shabby from the outside, and they seemed a bit slack with the booking, swapping over to complete the task, but we got checked in fine. Our room was much nicer that it looked from the outside. It had a large four poster bed with curtains tied all the way round, a bathroom with a dodgy looking shower and a balcony over looking the noisy Main Street! But it was great- it had air con, a safe and a fridge! Lovely!! We contacted a few more people quickly to give them our news- Arun, Gran D, Faye- who were all thrilled! Faye in particular was very happy for us!
We had a mooch around for the rest of the day, seeing a little bit of the area and getting our bearings before getting some food and chilling out after the stresses of getting here. It seems like a nice little island, despite the awful murders that happened here not so long ago. I think it is much quieter now than it was before as it doesn't really seem too busy and not much of a party island like it is suppose to be. It seemed to be okay though, just keep our wits about us. The pier and waterfront was just at the bottom of our road, the beach not far of a walk and shops and restaurants just down the road too so we seem to be in a good location! So far so good!
