Okay so I have not kept up with my blog entries as I promised so this will again be a mahoosive one, sorry about that!
So after where I left off last time, we had an amazing weekend in Kanchanaburi again, this was the weekend we got to go to Elephants World! It was so amazing seeing all the hard work the people there put in,looking after rescued working elephants and giving them a happy home.We got to bathe them and have a water fight with them, feed them and play games with them like hiding their food, ofc the elephants got to greedy with that so we ended up feeding it to them aha. This weekend was pretty much overwhelmed by the elephant sanctuary and the only other substantial thing I remember is that this was the weekend that we found out Dave wore a sarong as he was bunking with us that weekend and we found it too hilarious to deal with!
The weekend after was surely one to remember too, it was the kings birthday that weekend which meant we got to have a three day weekend in Bangkok yayyy! And Adam was back from England and met us there, which was so nice to see him again. After a long, funny mini bus there with Beth hilariously shouting at the hostel woman on the phone for a room mix up and being split into separate dorms, we finally met up with everyone and had our first night in Sukumvit, the more expensive night out in BKK. Me and Tamara* decided to split off from the group for a cheaper bar in which others joined us later, which was one of the funniest nights yet as I hadn't really known her before but we had such a hoot. This was also the first night I properly had a chance to get drunk and had an excuse to wind Dave up which is too fun! The day after was the Kings birthday and strangely, we went to the cinema to watch the Hunger Games which was a fun experience in itself, everyone has to sing the national anthem in the cinema screen before the movie! By the time we had watched a movie, and been shopping in the MBK mall,we stumbled across birthday celebrations - a muay thai match which was awesome. We watched half before heading to the stupendously busy Grand Palace for the fireworks show, such a surreal night. The saturday night though had to be my favourite night of the weekend, apart from the smelly annoying American man Bill who was in our dorm kicked off with everyone when he was asked if he had seen my room key, apparently we had accused him of stealing aha. Claire was not happy about that! After a day at Bangkok's biggest market, a night of drunkedness at this totally amazing backstreet club called Glow, I didn't hit the hay until about five after annoying everyone by non stop chatting rubbish haha. The next morning was awkward as hell, the previous night had ended with Megan telling Adam that she just wanted to be friends and boy did he paddy! So the day consisted of us watching him sulk, and waiting around for a transfer back to the schools.
Our last week at school was so sweet, on the Monday Yot took us to her friends house to see their plantation and eat the fruits there, where we tasted some of the most amazing Dragonfruit I've eaten since being here. I also got to play with their neighbours husky which was adorable. The next day we got an early finish to do our visa run, and we had the following day off due to a bank holiday, which was perfect as it was Zoe;s birthday and we got to go out. The day off was cool too as I seperated from my usual little TEFL bubble to head out with Gabby, Holly, Milad, Shreya and Muz and we explored a nearby chinese temple and I showed off my mad bicycle skills (turning a corner). We also found four stray kittens that couldn't have been more than a few weeks old, after cuddling them, Muz made a water feeding contraption out of a bottle of water and a leaf so they could drink which was so cute. The thursday evening was our last night with the school and after a day of goodbyes and christmas cards with the kids, we went for a meal with the whole faculty, funnily enough bumping into Holly, Gemma and Katherine doing the same. We had laughs, got presents, had photo's and had to give an awkward kiss on the cheek to the man presenting our gifts, which led to the gay teacher in the other school asking for a kiss from Dave, so funny watching that unfold! The Friday, our leaving day was so sad,we had our last round of the school saying goodbye, getting gifts from the children and having pictures and then headed back to Duenshine River Hotel in the minibus to meet everyone, Dave playing sad little songs on his mini guitar the whole way. Despite the sadness of the day, it was Amy;s birthday so everyone headed out for a last night in Kanchan, shock.
Then it was our time for Koh Somet with the TEFL gang, and after a long long long day of travelling we arrived on the most amazing island and had cocktails on the beach watching the fire dancers. We switched hotels the morning after and we got the most amazing beach huts, so immaculate and clean, until we moved in of course ha. We went for a swim with a load of the other, the furthest I had ever gone into sea,and the furthest Jermaine had to seeing as he cannot swim, such a scardy cat. The evening festivities led to a UV Bar were everyone got steaming, the sober crew said it was like people had been drugged! The night ended with Ben teaching me and Megan some muay thai kicks in the boxing ring which of course I am now expert in, ask Ben. Oh also, Adam cried,no sobbed, to me that night due to 'Megan not liking him', man up. The next few nights we all became friendly with the staff at our favourite place Nice and Easy, and drank there everynight. After me, Claire and Megan headed back early one night, a drunken HB finally joined our little sleepover and had the best story ever; she got kicked in the face! Bare in mind that this week on Koh Somet, she had already fallen out of a pickup truck taxi, been dropped on the floor and fallen off a broken chair smashing her head on a corner. So yes in addition to all this, she got kicked in the face after Adam found out Megan had moved on and definitely didn't want what he did.** Everyone apparently tried calming him down and then he took it out on HB shouting 'you knew all along!' and kicked her, disgraceful! No surprise, Emma the now leader asked him to leave the island and we had to convince him to leave too, and that we didn't want him travelling with us anymore, Ben had left the island too as he didn't want the drama, bless. On our last night, everyone had a BBQ which consisted mainly of fish, oh joy, and headed to Nice and Easy. Me and Claire headed home early and the others stayed out and ended up fire dancing themselves! Ahh well, we had a long day of travelling for the last night in BKK. Boy was this night emotional! We first said goodbye to the Irish as they had early flights, then headed to the Skybar from The Hangover for Becky;s birthday and our last night celebrations. It was so amaing but jeez they do overcharge you for drinks! Afterwardswe headed to Koh San Road for more drinks at normal prices which ended in me and HB being the last ones home after meeting some very interesting people in 7/11 and chatting about religion and our ancestors leaving people in South Africa.... The morning after, don't think I have ever cried that much, saying bye to all the amazing people we had met on the internship was so sad, even worse than some of the goodbyes the night before (different Emma and Megan's who we adored).Saying goodbye to our little bubble though was the hardest; Inez, Beth and especially Claire who wasn't coming travelling with us and separting from our little 'Partners in Crime' group.
I can honestly say I have enjoyed meeting so many different, weird (in a good way), interesting people and hope to stay in touch and meet up again some day.
As Teacher Yot would say, 'A new experience, you can't buy it at the market!'
