We set off from HCMC at 8am and headed for the border to cross into Cambodia.
This is the second land border cross we have done and it's still such a strange experience. We had our Vietnam visas stamped and were then in no mans land. It's weird to think that we weren't in any country for a few minutes. Then we crossed into Cambodia although for a moment I genuinely forgot where we were and thought we were in Laos. My brain has fallen asleep since we went travelling. I never know what day it is and my mental maths is awful.
One thing that shocked me on the way to our hostel was that whilst at traffic lights, children no older than 4 were walking up to cars and begging. I've only ever seen this on TV so to witness it in real life was horrible. It was said to never give these children anything as you are encouraging them to beg rather than go to school.
The other noticeable thing was the obvious difference between rich and poor. We'd drive past houses with 3+ bedrooms and next to that would be a house with just one room for the whole family. Nothing like the rich and poor neighbourhoods at home.
We went out to find some lunch after we'd dropped our bags off at the hostel. On reaching an American restaurant we went for 2 salads to try and be healthy as its hard to find healthy food at short notice. After our salads we walked back towards the hostel but instead went into an American doughnut shop
