Last of the Sun
I´ve vowed to become a better blogger and update shorter but more accurate blogs from now on and so this will no doubt be considerably shorter than the previous one...
I´m currently in a place called Hurraz, a mountainy city where our Peruvian leader lives. Yesertday we went to visit his family (cutest kids in the world). We´re pretty high up (3000m) at the mo, and we´re all feeling pretty nervous as tomorrow marks the first day of trek numero uno. It is really high and 4 days long but we´re cheating a bit and getting mules to carry our tents. Still, it´ll be tough... hopefully I´ll survive to tell the tale here.
Since I last wrote we spent one final week in Puerto Lopez, lounging in the sun and ventured to a remote island to continue some project work. We ended up carting logs up some hills in the heat which was tiring but satisfying. I got stung by yet another jellyfish in what looked like beautiful serene waters but which actually proved to be dangerous. When we arrived back to the house new arrival (like shipwrecked) Vicky was there to greet us ad has fitted right in ever since.
We had another party night Thursday with more drinking on the beach. A very funny Matilda, a passed out Nikolai and some random 4am bike rides made it a night to remember (for those who can). We said a sad farewell to the book bus (and my jacket with it) and have since experienced a whole new kind of bus. In the last 5 days we have spent nearly half of them on one bus or another as we made our way down to Peru. WE spent the weekedn In Mancora - nice to be back - and witnessed Miss Bottom 2011 contest at the hostel, which was just a bizaare experience.
By Tuesday we had arrived in a town just outside of Trujillo and visted ancient ruins of pre Inca societies called the Chan Chan. They´re archetecture was pretty spectacular and the national park is in the long process of trying to restore the missing parts. Tuesday afternoon Emily and I tried our hand at surfing, which was interesting to say the least. I managed to stand up a couple of times, fall over hundreds of times and came away exhausted but exhillerated!
So all for now, a rushed and simplistic blog today but informative I hope! Next blog will be post trek and hopefully satisfaction.
