Greetings!
Would have written earlier but I just got back from 4 days in Southern Israel and Egypt where I didnt have access to internet! I actually got back 2 days ago but I was exhausted and had a million things to do and then I started work yesterday, so I apologize for the delay :)
On Wednesday I went with a few of the sackler students (that is the american medical school at Tel Aviv U associated with NYU in the states) down to Eilat and then crossed the border in Egypt into an area called Sinai and stayed at a camp called Kum Kum (which means teapot). It was AMAZING! Definitely not something you could EVER experience in the states, and hard to describe fully but basically we spent 4 days living on the beach in little reed huts (that we actually never really went into since we mostly slept outside on mats since it was so hot in the huts!) and spent the days swimming, snorkeling, and meeting israelis and even a few professionals from Cairo (who might have a better command of the english language than me!). See the pics Ive uploaded to get a visual feel for what the place is like. I will also upload videos but they are really dark.
So while in Sinai I went snorkeling for the first time! One of my roomies is a seasoned vet and took us to a reef not too far from shore and it was amazing! Never seen anything like it up close, unfortunately didnt have an underwater camera so I cant put any pics of it on my blog :(. The second day we went out on a motor boat with one of the workers at the camp and he took us to 2 other reefs, and he went in with us and showed us all the different things about the reef (well as much as he could with the language barrier). I sorta even got attacked by a 25lb pufferfish (not really, it just swam toward me realllly fast, luckily im a good swimmer!)
We met some physicians from cairo (the aforementioned professionals) who were super nice and great to talk to since med students are never short for conversation about medicine. Their family owns a hospital in cairo and they live inside it--TRUE residents! Crazy!
Started work yesterday--Ill put in a seperate blog about that ASAP.
Miss/love you all!!
