Bangkok baby!
Arrived yesterday from Honkers and am currently residing just off the legendary Khao San Road. Feeling a little worse for the wear after meeting up with Yorick last night who is randomly out here on business for a week. Got Al and Sam nicely inaugurated into the filthy bucket cocktails they serve out here. Sadly the night was somewhat curtailed by around 2am - I think they are still clamping down a bit on rowdy nocturnal activity since the coup.
Our last day on good old Khao San Road, and what an enjoyable few days it has been - if a little indolent. Have treated myself to several KSR purchases, a manicure and some snazzy Chanel sunglasses as my Indian Dior's broke much to my annoyance. Thursday night we met up with Ed and Dave and headed to Pat Pong. As most of you will probably know, pat pong is a key tourist trap (although it does have an excellent fakes market) where thai girls basically perform the most lowly of 'sex' acts on stage to ogling tourists. It isnt like your regular strip club (not that I am an expert!) in that the girls are half yawning all the time and clearly not enjoying their 'art.' Still it is quite a must see for anyone visiting Bangkok. Given we were with Ed and Dave, we also took a trip down the gay strip of bars but I shan't write anymore about that to protect sensitive readers!
Fortunately our guesthouse has a rather nice rooftop pool and is quite upmarket for KSR area so we have spent most of our time working on our tans and relaxing during the day. We are going to be heading back to Bangkok later in the trip so we can tick off some more culturally inclined activities then. Friday night made for a very entertaining evening (photos to follow soon) as we met up with Ed, Dave,Yorick and Shahpur for a sushi on the RCA (Royal City Avenue, a thai orientated street littered with bars and restaurants.) Shahpur was on great form and insisted we get a bottle of scotch (vodka for the ladies - including Yorick) and before we knew it, all were up on stage dancing on the podiums. The problem with the club was that, despite its funky halloween theme, most of the people in there were mere teenyboppers. Absolutely no eye candy on offer, although Al had fun chatting up International Baccalaureat students!
Today is our last day in BKK (Sunday) as this evening we are going on an overnight bus and ferry to Koh Tao island, famed for its diving. 2 suits and a dress in the bag, courtesy of mine and Katie's favourite Tailors on the KSR.
