Continuing on....
Saturday we were up bright and early, ready for our SNOWBOARDING lesson!! It was so weird to have two feet locked together and heading down a hill! The instructor we had was really good and got us onto turning by the end of the day! I didnt quite master my toe turns but was definitely starting to get the hang of it!! I need to head up the mountain a bit more and do some more practice! I had a couple of really really painful falls and whacked my head on the snow so my body was incredibly sore the next morning!!
Sunday I had to clean to common areas of staff accom as it was my flats week (worst week in the world to get it, I couldnt believe it!) So I had to walk down and do a bit of cleaning, and then had work at 2pm. Dad and Diane started packing all of their stuff up and took lots of food down to my fridge which was very appreciated! Especially the cheese! Chees is a luxury here that I cannot afford! haha
Monday morning we were up bright and early for our shuttle to Calgary airport. I slept most of the way which was both amazing and horribly uncomfortable. I was lucky in that I had swapped seats with Dad and managed to have a whole row to myself! We stopped in a place called Canmore at Tim Hortons and I had my first ever Timmys! Tim Hortons is the Canadian Starbucks but like a million times cheaper.. We got three bagels and three hot drinks for $10..how awesome right? Its my favourite place at the moment.. Pity there is no Timmys in Invermere! It is out on the highway and is quite a long, uphill walk to get to it!!
We arrived in Calgary at about lunchtime, and got checked into our hotel (this teeny tiny room that was supposed to be a triple room and beds barely bigger than a single! We complained about it but the manager was a real p****and so we just decided to leave it and instead enjoy our time in Calgary) and then had a look around the shops. Calgary is an oil town and it has been established over a relatively short amount of time, which means that all the houses are the same, but also allowed them to make all of their highrise buildings interconnected. You can pretty much get in any building in the city and get to another one through these covered in bridges that go across roads etc. We wandered around the office buildings and then all of a sudden we were in a huge mall, literally in the middle of a high rise building. It was bizarre, and the mall went through like three blocks and so there were bridges in the middle of the mall to cross the roads! Pretty cool.
We made some cool purchases here, including an awesome Puma bag for me and then Dad and I got these awesome denim jackets that were official merchandise for the 2012 Olympics! Was just pretty cool to get out of Invermere and be in a real city with real shops!!
We found a really nice looking restaurant for our 'last supper' and then went back to our hotel to get changed and freshen up, have a bottle of wine and then head to our dinner. Was so so amazing! Really yum! The waitress was really rude and sneaky though! Its why I dont agree with tipping, its an expected thing here and I dont think that all service deserves a tip! Hers definitely didnt!
Tuesday morning we were up early to go for a quick shop and then Dad and Diane had to get in a taxi to go to the airport for their flight :( It was so sad to say goodbye! After they left I had like 7 hours to kill in Calgary on my own, so I just sat in a cafe with free wifi and started writing my blog. I was really lonely and homesick all day! Luckily I managed to talk to a few people on facebook and they cheered me up a little - was not a nice day though! My bus left at 615 so I walked to the bus stop and then got into Invermere at about 10, had to catch a taxi to Matty's house, and then finally went to sleep!
Since then, I have been working literally non stop, and haven't had much of a chance at all to get up the mountain which is a bummer! I am starting to get a little bored of being here, my job is a pain in the butt and the customers are horrible! I just need to hold out for another two months so that I can start travelling and being on holiday again!
Love from me xxx
