After an absolutely brilliant night as a send-off from Australia (including a talent show where it was proved that you can indeed lick your own elbow), I got on the airport bus for my next adventure.
Thankfully the bus driver was much more informed about the airports than myself and let me know I actually had to get my flight to New Zealand from the domestic terminal because I was stopping at Brisbane first. Very confusing. But I arrived in plenty of time to check in (I had an hour more than necessary for domestic flights) and even managed to witness passengers throw a bag of food and souvenirs over the lady at the check-in desk. So it was a nice drama free airport experience.
Almost not believing my luck I found out I had 3 seats to myself on the plane - which I took full advantage of! But then I had the traumatic experience of trying to get a connecting flight, which included changing terminals, going through security again, being selected for a random security check, filling out a departure card, being called to the gate early to check my details, having to give them information for my flight home and finding something to eat. I couldn't have crammed more in to an hour if I tried!
Finally I got on the plane to Auckland, where I got to watch the best airplane security video I've ever seen, in the theme of lord of the rings and featuring Elijah Wood.
Arriving in Auckland I was more than a little excited to finally see someone I knew. So after a big catch up and a much needed drink, jetlag hit DG and we went to bed.
