The next day, Friday, we headed towards Geelong and the start of the Great Ocean Road. The views along the great ocean road are fantastic and the sea is so blue! We love to watch the waves crashing on the rocks. We stayed the night just outside Lorne, a small touristy destination. A short drive inland from Lorne we walked to Erskine falls, a beautiful 30m waterfall. We also walked to Cora Lynn Casdades, which is even more impressive, partly because of the effort it took to get there. We had to climb over several fallen trees and climb up muddy hills. Rachel was exhausted at the end.
The next stop along was Apollo Bay, which we really liked. We stopped for fish and chips and an ice cream. We stayed a short distance away by a small sandy beach, where we stat and read until the sun went down. The next morning we had a better look around Apollo Bay and it's shops and bought some prawns from a fish shop on the harbour.
In the afternoon we went to Cape Otway, the oldest lighthouse in Australia. It was interesting but not worth the $31 entrance fee. Just as we arrived a storm came in so we didn't even get a good view from the top of the lighthouse.
The next few days we stayed by Johanna beach. It is a lovely stretch of coast but the weather wasn't so nice, lots of showers.
Once the weather had cleared up a little, meaning it wasn't raining constantly we continued along the great ocean road towards the twelve apostles. The views along this stretch of coast are spectacular the sea is so blue and the waves are huge. It was really windy and we struggled to stay standing, amazingly Sion's hat stayed on the whole time. When it rained we got absolutley drenched, but the wind dried us off before the next shower.
