Hi everyone, we are back at Koh Lanta, and it is Xmas Eve! Yesterday the electricity was off again, oh we missed the Island! Today while there is electricity we have trekked into the internet cafe, to use the phone and the internet, with half the keyboard's letters missing.
We had a nice time in Ao Nang, I am trying to make sure Ayanda gets broad indepth views of the places we visit, I mean sure we could just do 5 star the whole way, but that wasnt the point. Ao Nang has all the glitz and glamour, with it's Macdonalds, Burger king etc, while being a family favourite beach, so we werent facing some girly bars and that side of things. I thought it was interesting that going from a really healthy diet, of fruit, and Thaifood, and previously the village diet (ok we can't drink the water so we have a few too many suagry drinks probably) but after three days of fast food and pizzas etc, we both found ourselves constipated, bloated and crampy, and I thought it was very interesting. Anyway it was a holiday in a holiday and we are back to our tiny room, tiny fan, with intermittant electricity on one of the most beautiful islands on this planet. And I couldnt list how many times we have been made feel welcome here.
We have a motorbike again, but unlike Langkawi, there are no tourist attractions here, as we ride along we daily see elephants by the road, usually in work mode, and you can ride them, but we did that in Langkawi, so haven't here, there is a Monkey School here, the monkeys are trained how to get coconuts off trees, and a butterfly place, which was midly depressing. Yesterday I ran out of petrol on the bike, and it was right in from of a little man selling petrol in 1.25 ltr glass bottles! which was great luck! but Ayanda craked me up when he said in a puzzled voice that he didn't know motorbikes could run on softdrink!
Ayanda and I have been twice to play with the baby monkeys, we have one as a special favourite, he saw me and jumped on me, ripped off my sunnies, licked them, used my handbag like a swing, and did general naughty monkey things, but when Ayanda went to him, he just climbed on Ayanda's lap and curled up and fell asleep!! We couldn't believe it!, and I have it on Video, and Ayanda did't want to wake him up, and sat there with this little monkey asleep on him. When the monkey woke it rolled onto it's back and reached up and played with Ayandas dreads, it was so cute and sweet, very different from how it treated me!
Needless to say we went back the next day, and the moankey did the same thing, just clinbed up on Ayanda's lap and fell asleep, and I think we will go again tomorrow for Xmas, we will see.
Yesterday we went to the Childrens Xmas party, held by a little home school, run by a collective of parents, who live on the Island. Very Nice, and Ayanda had a BALL! Tonight we are treating ourselves to a five star Buffet at the lovely swanky restaurant with the beach views to die for. I am even going to put on makeup!!! Ayanda and I are drinking lots to stretch our tummies, and I am schooling him to go for the prawns not the pasta :) I cant help myself, it might be a five star buffet but it still is a "all you can eat"! and at Xmas it is tradition to eat lots!
Anyway, thinking of everyone, and hope you and yours are happy
love Rachel and Ayanda
