Yay in Paris for the very first time!! I'm beyond excited! We arrived very early and took the metro into town to the saint-Michel notre dame station... When we arrived we jumped out and wondered around the station until we got into Paris at la Sorbonne -Cluny station which was not the one we were looking for but anyway...
We arrived at around 7am and Paris was pitch black... Like it was still the middle of the night... And it was FREEZING!!!!! Walking out of the metro I have never been so cold in my life! Thank goodness for my amazing ski jacket ;) (thanks mom and dad)! We were not too sure where we were ad all the shops were closed except for the trustworthy old mcD's! So in we went to get warm and to speak some French! ;) we got the most delicious hot chocolate and a chocolate muffin to share! YUMM.
We asked the waitress when... Quand... The sun... Um... La soleil... Will... Est... Rise... ??? And she said non... Rien. Which means no, never... Hahaha... Oh dear. And she was right it didn't come out! ;( well after that we went looking for the notre dame our first stop on our exploration around Paris!
We weren't too sure about our exact location but on our wanderings we saw stunning buildings an the most extravagant churches just tucked up among the more modern buildings! ;) how cool!!! There were also really pretty little gardens... And we turned a corner and there was the notre dame!!! All magnificent with a really lovely Christmas tree outside covered in twinkling Christmas lights shaped as stars!
We wondered around it and were going to go inside but a sign indicated that no bags were allowed! ;( a real dent in our happiness! But we decided to catch the train back to la hate du nord to find the elusive luggage lockers... We got roger lost trying to explain to people in french that we wanted to store our luggage... Nous sommes un place pour la baggage? No... Umm... la baggage (point) uhh.. Laisse? Non... Ok next person... Finally we found out the what we were looking for was 'la consignment'' and eventually we found it and left our bags behind. It was so nice to be able to walk freely without the bags!!!
So then we went back to the notre dame and had a look inside - which was so beautiful and haunting! The deep dark archway so High and the stunning stained glass windows were so beautiful in the gloom!! It was very evocative. Especially with all the little candles flickering away. We lit a candle for our family and sat in the pews and prayed for all of you.
" may god bless you
and keep you
may his face to shine upon you and give you peace "
After the notre dame we went down to the batobus to go on our wonderful cruise down the river only to find that it was not operational due to the floods!!!! Arghhhh!!! Annoying, so we went back to conquer the trains!!!
Our next stop was THE EIFFEL TOWER!!! what a cool structure, and so big!!!! Yay!!! Th main icon of Paris I was Soooo excitedto see it! Hayls and I bought bravura but mine was the best cos on it is says 'PARIS FRANCE' yay!!! And its pink! After walking under the eiffel tower we decided to walk to the arc de triomph and then walk down the champs élysées.
So off we went toward The Trocadero! We saw such cool extravagant carousels one had a motorbike on it among the pretty pink and blue horses! which was pretty funny! As we walked over the seine we could see for the first time that it was pretty flooded as most of the lower platform was covered! And then we walked into a rather fancy Christmas market! It was really cute with all of the little houses all lit up and people selling everything from chocolat chaud and vin chaud to chocolates and jams and chip samies to hats and crazy furry scarfes... There was even an icerink!! AWESOME! The we walked up the stairs to the main Trocadero buildings to find tons of people all over the place ranging from tourists to hawkers to a really cool band and some awesome gold statues!!
Then off up avenue kleber! As we wondered along the street we came across the best sight ever... A patisserie!!!! YAY!!! My dream come true!!! All the pastries and bread! Yum yum yum! So in hauls and I went to purchase some deliciousness!! I ordered a chocolat tete and un pain au chocolat armond!!! Yummy!!! And I ordered for hayls this bread thing and and a couronne aux choux!!
Outside on the street we tucked Hayls food.. We had the bread thing... It was a flat crispy baguette that was deliciously doughy it was covered in tomato slices and then drowned in camembert!!! AMAZING!!! Then we ate her couronne aux choux which tasted like heaven with a little crunchy sugar on top absolutely amazing!!!!
A we walked we saw a man trying to park his car and we ended up just stopping and watching him as he parallel parked because he bumped the car behind him and the continued to bump the car infront and then behind asinine and it didn't seem to bother anyone?! What is that?! Crazy french people!
When we got to the arc de triomph it was really stunning!!! And HUGE!!! And teeming with people as we walked under the road to look at it more close up. It really is amazing all the carving into the building wow!!!
After That it was time to head back to the train to get to our bags at la hate du nord and then to ORLY to catch our flight to Barcelona!! What a long train trip we kept falling asleep well I did as a kept waking up stressed about missing our stop... Hayls just passed out and that was that!!!
After being at ORLY a while our departure time came and went and finally we were on the bus going o the plane to find out that the plane had technical difficulties and the flight was cancelled! ;( Urgh. Eventually a new flight from CDG was scheduled and we were put on a bus to CDG and then off to Barcelona we went!!!
