I had to get up early today (Friday) to catch a 9.15am bus to Taupo, which is in the middle of the north island. Taupo is located on Lake Taupo which is a massive lake and is actually the crater of a really big volcano which erupted ages ago. The hostel I'm staying in is called Tiki Lodge and I can see the Lake from my window. Although this is a new hostel my room takes first prize for being basic. There are only 3 bunk beds and a bin - nothing else - not a hook on the door or anything. Whats nice though is that its ensuite, but again the bathroom is very sparse. Loo, sink and shower and thats it, no hooks, nowhere to put anything not even a bin. The rest of the hostel is nice though, but it doesn't seem too friendly. The kitchen is fully equiped and very new, and there is a tv lounge and also a hot tub out the back - but its too cold to even consider using it. Went for a walk along the lake today, and then went in Pizza Hut for an all you can eat buffet (my first pizza hut in New Zealand!). I did feel a bit of a johnny no mates sitting in there all by myself, but a least the pizza was nice. You could also have unlimited deserts, and I made the most of that. Am feeling slightly sick now, but in a good way.
