This morning, we wanted to try and get a bus into Lampang, which is one of the neighbouring towns. The walk to the bus stop took about half an hour and during that time we didn't see any buses on the road, which didn't fill us with much hope. We arrived at the bus stop and waited and after 30 minutes of waiting still no bus. As it was now getting late in the day we decided to give it up as a bad job and walked back into town.
We have very quickly discovered, it is extremely difficult to travel around the city by your own means. If you are prepared to walk into a travel agents of which there are many and pay over the odds to travel with an organised tour then you can easily experience all Chaing Mai has to offer. Unfortunately this is the last thing we want to do.
Feeling slightly deflated we walked back into town and stumbled upon a cooking school. We liked the look of it and booked ourselves on a half day course for tomorrow. That evening we went to watch some Thai Boxing, we had a great night, the highlight being the "show fight" when they put four willing guys in the ring together, blind-folded then they commenced to try and fight. Hilarious!!
Having had a great evening with the V.I.P seats at the boxing (not as glamorous as it sounds) we had a couple of beers and returned to the room. Both desperate for the toilet we ran to our bathroom only to find the stupid locking system (though no fault of our own) had locked us out and we had no way of opening it. We unsuccessfully ran around the building looking for somewhere with a toilet, but spotted the owner still had their light on. As it was now 1am we reluctantly knocked on the door thinking they would have a key to hand.
The woman behind the door refused to answer (a trick she'd played with someone else during the day) and simply shouted from the other side, keeping calm we hung around. A guy then turned up from outside the guest-house refused to open the door (through broken English we now think there is no key for the door). The guy then commenced to get angry at us and demanded to know how much we were paying for our room, this then made us both angry, as he was clearly suggesting that because we weren't paying as much as others we had no right bothering them! by this time people in the guest house were leaving their rooms to find out what was going on. The guy swore at us a few times and in the end handed us a key for another room, finally we could use the toilet!
Stressed and with plans to leave as early as possible in the morning, and hoping not to get a knock at the door from the police during the night we hit the pillow for a restless night.
