This was our last day in India, Our plan was to see a few of the sites in Delhi once we had checked out of our guest house at 1.00pm. At the beginning of last week, we budgeted so that we would have enough money left to go to a couple of museums and maybe to go and watch a Bollywood movie at the cinema. Unfortunately our money had now run out (we didn't want to draw out any more as it was our last day) and we couldn't work out where it had all gone! So the day would now be a slow one, spent hanging around, using the internet, trying to spend as little money as possible before out flight to Bangkok at 3.30am.
12.30, DISASTER! While watching TV we realised that today was Tuesday, the day we're supposed to fly at 3.30. Meaning the flight that we had booked had long since left Delhi and landed in Bangkok! At least we now had an explanation as to why we had run out of money, we should have already left! Frantically we ran down to the internet café to book another flight. Tom rung Cathay Pacific, who we had booked the ticket with (this flight was separate to all the others on our trip as we had booked it ourselves) he explained that we had got our dates wrong and asked if it would be possible to leave that evening on the same flight, thinking this would probably cost hundreds. Within five minutes, we were booked on the same flight that we had missed the previous day, with no cost to us. UNBELIEVABLE!
After a stressful Rickshaw journey to the airport, at 3.30 am, we finally boarded our flight to Bangkok.
As our last day in India had been quite a stressful one, by the time we boarded the plane we were both ready to move on. We'd had an amazing 3 weeks and have seen things that will stay with us forever. India is an amazing country with some lovely people but unfortunately (in part due to the caste system), those who don't have, never will, and those with money just continue to become more and more wealthy, this is something we both struggled to comprehend. The lack of basic hygiene was a difficult for us both, but after a week of getting used to this way of life we soon accepted this was how it was was going to be. So after surviving monsoons, dirty toilets, 46 degree heat, doggy curries, seeing the Taj Mahal, and travelling from Goa in the south the Delhi in the north, we now had a good grounding for the rest of our trip. We were both agreed that we will return to India in the future as there are still loads places we want to see.
