While in town yesterday, we spotted a bar that offered a buffet breakfast for $2.85. Spotting a great opportunity to make this into a breakfast come lunch we sat down, made the most of it. It turned out this place also had free WI-FI so we ended up sat there for about 2 hours eating pastries and drinking as much coffee as physically possible.
Feeling really full we tried to walk it off by heading to Wat Phnom, the cities main Buddhist temple. The grounds of the Wat were in a nice shaded garden area, and as we arrived got heavily whistled at by a guard for stepping on the grass (odd that's what you usually do in parks), we stayed for a while trying to avoid the mid-day sun. The walk back to the guesthouse was really hard work, it was now very hot and it probably took us twice as long as it should have as we were trying to keep in the shade all the way.
Our Vietnamese visas arrived back in the afternoon which meant we could now leave for Siem Reap in the morning, and as Mel was heading to an island in the south tomorrow we all went into town together in the evening. The bar we went to had a movie theatre upstairs and we all watched a documentary about the history of land-mines in Cambodia, we had a few more beers and set off back.
As we've now spoken to a lot of people about travelling through Australia, and they all say it's far too expensive we've started planning. Thinking a good place to start, is by buying a guide book, yesterday Tom had tried to barter with a lady selling travel guides on a street stall. As is always the case when buying something here it's a long and tedious process, being made more difficult as we couldn't appear to be buying compulsively. Last night the woman wouldn't drop her price lower than £6 (all the books they sell here are copies, so we didn't want to pay more than £4). Tonight was going to be different...... She spotted us from the side of the road and hailed us over, spotting the ball was now in our park the compulsory bargaining processes started, after a funny minute or so we managed to get the book for £3.50, buzzing. Only problem now is we're carrying a 1000 page book for the next 3 months.
