First Week:
Sorry for not keeping this updated!! We have been very busy this first week in Asia!
Bangkok was really good fun, we stayed here for 3 nights and explored all the main sites, including the Grand Palace, Chinatown and Koh San Road. It was extremely hot and there was lots and lots of food stalls everywhere which made it smelly!! We loved our hotel - very lovely and helpful staff! We splashed out one night and went to the Sky Bar (as seen in the Hangover) it is on the 64th floor of a hotel and the views were breathtaking! We could see the whole city!
We then travelled via bus (at 4am!!!) to the Cambodian border (poipet) it took around 5 hours - we managed to navigate ourselves through the border which was a bit of a mission! Once through to Cambodia we went on a further 2 taxi ride to Siem Reap. This was one of the most scariest journies of our lives so far!! There are NO rules on the roads here - and the transport consists of buses, lorries, cars, tuktuks, motorbikes, bikes etc..... - we even had a minor crash coming into Siem Reap!!
When we finally made it to Siem Reap we were given a warm welcome by our guesthouse owner - Hak! He was lovely and we felt right at home there. That night we went to Angkor Wat temple for the sunset which was beautiful! Just google it! We also went out for lots of drinks and ended up in Angkor What? Bar partying with some random people ! ( Dan was dancing on the tables!!)
Overall - we loved Siem Reap and the relaxed vibe there.
However - we had a early wake up call and it is safe to say that we were HANGING!!! We had a personal TukTuk driver who took us around all the temples and although it was lovely we werent feeling great! But the temples were amazing.
The next day we had a 6 hour coach trip to Phnom Penh (where we are now) - the journey was actually okay - its alot better being in a coach than a taxi! Phnom Penh is capital of Cambodia and is extremely busy, we spent the first night exploring and having drinks (watching football!) and then today we went to the Killing Fields - this was extremely moving and we thoroughly enjoyed it. It is were Pol Pot - the organiser of the Khmer Rouge and he and the government massacred over 1.5million betweeen 1975 and 1979. The killing fields is were a number of these massacres took place and there were still bone remains everywhere and clothes on the ground near the graves. It was an emotional morning to say the least!
This afternoon we have relaxed, had lunch and sat by the Mekong River which is very peaceful compared to the rest of Phnom Penh. In one hour we will be heading to Sihankouville which is a beach resort on the southern coast of Cambodia which has beautiful beaches and tropical islands to explore! We are very much looking forward to chilling out for a couple of days before we make our way to Vietnam!
Hope all is well back home and you are all enjoying your Monday morning at work!!! Miss you all.
We will upload some photos in the next couple of days!!
