Rachie-baby's Travels
At the weekend 7 of us took a sleeper bus to Hampi. Our very own tour bus! How exciting we thought. But once we got going trying to sleep was near impossible. Indian roads are full of potholes and we were almost thrown from our bunks at regular intervals throughout the night. This combined with the drivers love for the horn and some odd smells, ensured we arrived in Hampi very weary indeed.
But Hampi was lovely. It looks like Bedrock - there are mountains of huge boulders, palm trees, banana plantations, balancing rocks, temple ruins and scampering monkeys. Really calm. We ate Thaly and drank lemon soda on rattan mats in the shade at the Mango Tree, which overlooks the Ganges. Sam and Tessa were getting over food poisoning from a spicy chicken pizza from Pizza Corner, so they were taking it easy.
And then Hannah was sick. And then Vicky was sick. And then Tessa was sick. And then Manjula was sick. (Sensing a theme here) And Sam developed some allergies to the dust. So it was just me and Michael left! Final Destination! But I have a stomach made of steel.
Other highlights included Sam and Tessa's rat in their room, size of a dog I hear. And the rickshaw man let me drive. And we all got blessed by the elephant Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, light and wisdom.
We arrived back in Bangalore at 5.30 this morning and I am suitably knackered, but at work!
