Birthday!!
Hey everyone! Hope you´re all going ok and enjoying the simple things in life. It´s become apparent to me as I grow older and wiser that life´s small pleasures - like pancakes with crispy bacon cooked into them - should be cherished.
So now I´m a big 24 year old!! Can you believe it!? My birthday here in Granada was very cool - not quite the guacamole-slinging, piñata-thrashing tequila fest we managed last year in Mexico, but wonderful nonetheless.
Johnny took me out for yummy pancakes and gave me my first present of the day - a huge string of the LOLLIPOPS to which I have become addcited here - bonbones rojos. We arrived home to find Mili, Boz, Jake and Claire (other volunteer mates) waiting - and Mili had baked me a cake!
We´d planned to go to Laguna de Apoyo - I´ve been before and it´s just gorgeous. So like good sensible gringoes we piled six of us into an unmarked taxi (perfectly legit here - even with Boz in the boot) and made the half hour trip down the winding road. We found some other friends already there and chilled on the deck and played guitar, swam in the warm, crystal waters and ate woodfired vegetarian pizza. Soooooooooooooooooo good.
That night lots of vollies and local mates came round to party - as we were also celebrating Sam´s last week in Granada (he´s been a vollie for 5 months and is soon back to the UK). After indulging in some excellent Nicaraguan rum we packed about 20 of us into the back of Fabricio´s ute and cruised through to El Cesars - a very Nica (as opposed to touristy) club with loads of room on the dance floor, which we utilised to rhythmically poor but hilarious effect.
Tomorrow Johnny and I set off on a 3 week trip bound for Panama. More updates soon!
