Hi everyone !
Finially back in civilisation after 2 weeks solid in the jungle ! Spent last night in town and it was amazing to be sleeping in a bedroom on a matress rather than a tent floor ! As well as having an actual shower rather than a river !
Been a pretty hectic 2 weeks with everyone trying to get their BTEC work done so we can all leave early. Had another mini earthquake last Monday while we were alll eating breakfast, apprently there really common in this area and its nothing to be worried about. Still a little bit unnerving when your trying to eat and your bowl of porrage (which is all we ever have for breakfast)is ratteling away from you ! But it only lasted a few minutes.
Had plenty of rain over the past few weeks. Came back from town last time to discover that it had rained so badly over night the plastic ceiling of our kitchen had collapsed and we no longer had any roof ! But lucky it was quickly mended and seems to be standing up to the weather atm (fingers crossed !) The camp site its self is starting to look more like a mud pit right now, every where is extremely slippery. Espically down by our long drop toilet, which is making going to the bathroom a bit of a mission. But still at least theres no bats living down it again.
Seen plently more wildlife over the past few weeks. Everytime were on the beach we see loads of scarlett mckaws and pelicons (which we think are in the middle of migrating atm), as well as plenlty of lizards and hermit crabs. A couple of nights ago we even managed to spot a kinkajou up one of the trees at our camp, which is really rare to see. Then on one of my lizard observation walks a few days ago I saw a cuati climbing down a tree, which then turned and snarlled at me, so I ran back up the track pretty quickly! Been brave with all the insects we had at camp so far, but everyone is getting really fed up of the leaf cutter ants that have a nest near us. We all keep getting bitten pretty much every single day.
Spent the past 2 weeks solidly working on my BTEC prject which looked at what time of the day skinks (a breed of lizard thats really common here)is most activie. Ive been doing 3 one hour walks a day observing them and recording the number I see. Most of my walks have been on the beach, so Ive got a pretty good tan now ! Fininally finished everything yesterday morning when we all gave our presinitations about our projects, and good news Ive passed it ! Even with the howler monkeys making a massive noise while I was trying to give mine. This means that I should hopefully pass my BTEC !
Made a trip to the ´local´ bar last week, which ment walking for an hour and 15mins.I dont think Ive ever had to walk that long for a beer in my life ! But it was worth it, had a really good night that ended up with the locals giving us free food and everyone having arm wrestling matches. We even managed to get a lift back off the bar owner ! Getting back up the track to camp was a bit difficult with most people feeling very merry and the track been slick with mud, so most of us fell over at somepoint, but no hangovrs so it was a good night.
Four of us are leaving camp early and heading over to Panama on wed ! Really excited about going, our first stop is Panama City and the canal !
Thankyou again for the lovely comments, it seems the only way I can reply to them is on here. I really really appreicate them, as much as Im having fun starting to look forward to coming home and seeing everyone now.
