BANGKOK BABY!
"I JUST WANNA MAKE YOU SWEAT..."'
Our flight here was... intereting. Rachael is retarded! Luckily we were sat with a dude who had just been for a job interview in Stockport - he was planning to move from Abu Dhabi to Stockport. WHY? Rach couldn't figure out how to use anything so matey had to show her - he knew EVERYTHING! After a restless couple of flights we finally arrived in Bangkok to wait in a queue for an hour just to get through immigration. Once we arrived at our hotel we were exhausted so we decided to explore our huge awesome hotel and had an amazing thai meal on teh 32nd floor while being seranaded by Chinese people singing 'the wind beneath my wings' on karaoke - HILARIOUS!
We woke up at 6.30 am the next morning - too excited to sleep any longer! We went for breakfast where we had eggs, eggs and more eggs - thats all there really was other than curry and rice and who would want that for breakfast? We spent the day walking to Siam square and looking around the shopping centres which are HUGE! They all have about 7 floors and one even has giant rubber ducks outside it. After having some ice cream to cool off we had our first tuk tuk ride to the hotel - what an experience! i think Sammy was slightly scared for her life at some points! They drive like maniacs!
First impressions of Bangkok - fricking awesome (and very sweaty)
Outside of the airconditioned shopping centres Bangkok is seriously hot! Once back at the hotel we were stupidly sweaty so we jumped into the pool and set about working on our tans - untill we got bored 20 minutes later and then left to go back to our room for a nap! When we FINALLY woke up (seriously - we were jet lagged!) we went out to eat at Khoa San Road - backpacker central! Whilst wandering around we were constantly asked if we would like to see a 'ping pong show' - complete with sound effects! We obviously look like the pervy type!
When we got back to the hotel we decided to have a couple of drinks on the roof terrace. Sitting having a lovely time drinking our Chang when the thunder starts. We s*** ourseves - it was SO loud! It stormed all night. We carried on the party inside watching the storm, as well as Top Chef and Chinese Strickly Come Dancing! - Fun times!
This morning we woke up late-ish with no plans. We decided to walk towards the Grand Palace. On our way we were stopped by a local who told us not to go any further as people were protesting at the Palace. The first person to say that we didnt look like tourists. We swiftly changed our course and headed to Wat Samet and the Golden Mount. It was SO hot today and the sun was shining so we were ridiculously flustered and sweaty when we finally reached the top of the golden mount - 4 sets of the smallest winding steps! The view was nice i guess...was it worth the sweaty trek tho? Probably not. Again we headed back to the hotel to jump in the pool- Best feeling EVER after loosing about a stone in sweat! NICE! The weather was a bit overcast so we went back to get lunch from the 7-11 and for some reason, after all of that sweating we were craving salt and ended up ating 3 big bags of crisps! One packet was barbecue flavoured onion rings.mmm. We also watched Hawai 5-0 the original which is the best car crash tv we have ever seen! Our favourite quote from it was ''yes i have pictures of my son - they are all ugly'' - lets just say it was awesome. We decided to nap again as we could feel the jet lagged feeling coming on again - not an excuse at all!
When we finally manages to drag our arses from bed we got ready and headed to Khao San Road again for tea. We had the most amazing thai green curry in this really cute little restaurant down an alley. We needed to get an early night, so went back to the hotel to make sure we'd packed everything and went to bed - ready for our 4.30 am start tomorrow!
