Today we got up around 10am. We heard the lads leave as they are heading to Surfers Paradise. After some breakfast we walked to Queen Street Shopping Mall. We needed to get an Australian sim card for our mobiles so we went into the Vodafone shop. We purchased a prepaid sim card for $9.00 and then paid $29.00 for credit. We received $160.00 worth of credit by paying $29.00. Bargain. The credit lasts for a month and then you have to top it up again. After we had sorted our sim cards out we found where the medicare office was. We have to register with medicare so that if we need to see a doctor we won't get charged for it. We got the application forms to fill in but were told to come back with a copy of our working visa and travel insurance documents as we didn't have these on us. We got some lunch and then went to get a Starbucks drink. Afterwards we went hunting for a new bag for myself and I found one in the sale for $14.00. My other bag was a cheap one from Matalan and the strap broke on it. We went to Tribal Travel for free internet where we printed off our documents for the medicare registration and then headed back to the medicare office. We showed the documents with our completed forms and was told our medicare cards will come through in the post in the next 2 weeks. Then we headed back to the hostel. I went out for a short while for a walk over William Jolly Bridge and along Brisbane River to take some photos. Then at 6pm I headed back and got ready to meet Rachel at 7pm. I met Rachel on the Contiki tour I did in America in September and we got on really well. She lives in Brisbane so we thought it would be nice to see each other again and catch up while I was visiting Brisbane. I met Rachel outside the hostel and we walked along a street with loads of bars and restaurants down it. We found one restaurant that was doing 2 for 1 meals so we decided to eat there. We had to wait for a table so we got a drink and chatted about things we had been doing since we last saw each other. Then we got seated and ordered. I had steak and Rachel had fish. It was a really good meal and Rachel treated me to all the drinks and food that I had ate. I did offer to pay for my half of the bill but Rachel wouldn't take no for an answer. She insisted that it was her treat as I was in Brisbane. So nice of her. I couldn't thank her enough. We walked back to the hostel and Rachel came in briefly to meet Gina. Then she had to leave to go home. We had a lovely evening catching up. We are definitely going to stay in touch and hopefully meet up again in the future.
