From c*** of the Rock Lodge with a 4:30 am start to the Crees Manu Learning Centre - two hours by car then another 40 mins by boat. We're in the jungle proper now! Is so tranquil here, and we're the only guests. Saw and did some amazing things, inter alia;
- spotted about eight COTRs (including some really close and a female; early start paid off!)
- about three more troupes of different monkeys throughout day
- a highway of leaf cutter ants. Then some monkeys came and when we'd finished watching them and walked off Yen stepped on the ants
- bullet ants, which have the most painful bite of any insect in the world
- a fern that plays dead when you touch it by withering for a minute or two, a bit like the way Venus fly trap can move
- watched cocoa leaves being dried
- a bug landed on jen's eye and kept running around over her iris as she tried to get it out
- reasonably fresh jaguar tracks
It's also NYE today. Felix Ano Nuevo! Not sure I'll make it to midnite, but we have some yellow hats and necklaces to celebrate (no yellow undies though - well Jen does but they started white a week ago) and some beers. Early fireworks for us this year!
