Recently I attended a 3 day 2 night camping trip to the Northern Section of Tasmania. Phil, Laura, Daiana, and I camped in a tent on the St.Claire Lake overlooking the Cradle Mountains.
Although we did not hike the mountain do to the cost, we did hike Mount Rufus and Mount Nelson. From the top it look as though you could see all of Tasmania. Daiana and I took a longer trail that lasted about 8 hours. Each side of the mountain contained its own views and styles. We saw everything from forest, to lakes, to wetlands, and even a Rainforest.
Along with this short expedition came a list of creature sightings. We saw a Wallaby, a snake, a wombat, and our tent was mildly attacked by a possum that desperately seeked our food supply. Don't worry though, I handled everything with Laura jumping atop of people in fear.
You would be surprised to know that Tasmania is very cold. After sunny days at 100 degrees in Perth, a New England style weather change with temperatures around 55 was a vast difference. Although there is not as much city life in Tasmania, it is still very enjoyable. It reminds me a lot of home. Trees, mountains, hills, water. Yup! Just about right.
Of course, when we are not on expeditions or in class our days are spent watching movies while desperately waiting for the internet to finally work properly. A luxury that I did not expect to struggle with.
I got a genuine aussie haircut yesterday and now fit in with my fellow countryfolk. It is a slight fade that gets gelled up to a sort of messy mohawk in the back and a skislope in the front. It definitely took some getting used to after 5 inches was taken off. Who knew?
I hope that I can get my pictures loaded now that I have internet access at the University of Tasmania. They should be up within the next two days.
Being here, although reminding me of home, also makes me miss everyone. I love Australia, but as Dorothy puts it best in the "Wizard of Oz", "There is no place like home". There is not, but everywhere else can still be beautiful and amazing. Cheers!
