Hi to everyone. After a very long 27 hrs I finally got to Paris. Not the modern airport I expected. No interest whatsoever in my NZ passport, and no entry stamp date.
Eventually got to my hotel, no English translations on metro, poor maps. It is very hot, not what I expected. Anyway I left my bag and headed. Into the city and did a free 4 he walking tour. Had trouble concentrating, and got the metro back to the hotel , tho had intended to walk - and then used the lift in the hotel up 4 floors with my 22 kg bag - those of you who know my aversion to lifts will therefore know how knackered I was!! Very!!
Today I had a late start to the Palace of Versailles, not helped by the train stopping short of there and we had to walk. It was still fabulous 30 years after I last saw it. I followed Courtney's example and took oodles of photos, including some self portraits.
Tomorrow I will go back into the city and the big sights - and long queues.
There isn't as bad traffic as I expected and they faithfully follow the lights, not like Asia where they ignore them. I expected to see more dogs, but have seen a few on the metro, not just toys but big fellows.the footpath cages are ridiculous, tiny plastic tables about 30 cm wide, chairs jammed in, you have to walk around the feet, don' t know how that is fun.
Weather is fabulous, hot and sunny, still light at 9 pm.
Hotel pretty poxy
, well not compared to my Hong Kong one, but shower hand held, TV useless, but wifi working tonight( hence this blog instead of research on tmw's activities)
I like it more than I expected, buildings very old and built of stone. We hit the suburbs today on the train, houses so close, no parking, and vege gardens along the train line, clever.
OK, time to snooze, remember to write to me on the travel sim no
Haven't mastered the photo bit yet of this site - have requested technological assistance from Netta.
Bye for now, Carol

Debz So good to see you blogging, much better than email and seems more exciting some how. Paris is just how I remember, me not being able to speak any french was terrible and I found that the french did not want to try or help! Keep the blogs coming, I'll be reading. Look after yourself, no falls OK! Best wishes Love Debz
Lesley B It was great to hear from you and have this opportunity to come with you on your travels again. You're getting very techno...not sure I'll be able to keep up. I'm envious of your travel in Europe though not the intended walks...I'd rather do it in style. Have fun and keep to the safe areas!!!! Lesley
Christine R It so feels like we are all with you doing it this way. You're in my favourites so I can keep up on the journey. Only way I would ever be able to do what you are doing. What an awesome woman you are. It's ANZAC day here so I assume your at ANZAC cove today. Enjoy the experience!
Melita So glad to hear you have arrived safe and sound. When we were in Paris it was overcast lets hope next time round we will have that perfect weather just like you are getting. Take care Melita
