Well hello everyone. I am now speaking from the country of Malaysia, high up in the Cameron Highlands, where the air is cooler. oh my Buddha, did it take us a while get here.
My last post was from the island of Koh Phi Phi. We left early on Monday morning to get the 2 hour boat ride over to mainland thailand. This one was a lot better than the last (No sinking problems). From there we had to get a coach to Hat Yai (big city) and from there we would were planning on getting a sleeper train to Ipoh (near the Cameron highlands). The coach wasnt a coach, but more of a minibus. Lackage of leg room. The journey took about five to six hours. On arrival to Hat Yai we discovered that the last train had already left and the bus was full. Looks like we are staying in Hat Yai for the night. The city had very few westerners, which is actually a nice change. We had a lovely thai meal as well for two pound twenty five. The waitresses were giggling a lot. Dont think they had ever seen westerners before. Me and Wills then headed out for a few beers. Ended up at the pink lady, where there is a lot of karaoke going on. Also the ladies come and sit next to you and you end up buying them a drink. they also managed to persuade us to pay for them to sing to us. You have to put a flower round they're neck while they are singing. Have pitures of this, which i will send soon. Was an enjoyable and unexpected night out.
The next morning we set out for the next part of our journey. To our delight, the coaches we booked were luxury. Reclining seats, loads of leg room and even a film. Ahhhh, paradise. the border of Thailand and Malaysia was a bit of a pain. Unfortunatel we didnt realise that we had to get off the coach to get our passports stamped. We were just about to leave when they realised. This did not make them happy, lol, and probably delayed the coach by half an hour. Whooops. By 5 o clock (clocks gone an hour forward, so we are now 8 hours ahead of you), we arrive in Ipoh. After a taxi journey to get some cash out, we manage to get on a bus headed for tanah Rata (In Cameron highlands). Because we are westerners, the ticket guy gave us front row seats for extra leg room, as we are bvigger than everyone else. Leeroy couldnt wait to get away as there was this weird, stick thin Malaysian lad who just kept staring at him from outside. i really enjoyed the journey. Took just over 2 hours and the landscape was magnificient, just as the sun was setting. You could feel the cooler breezes as we headed higher and higher. Finally, we arrive in Tanah Rata and immediately have someone take us to a hostel close by. So far we have met no British people here. A few Europeans ans Australians, but mainly this is a destination for the Malaysians. There is a definate refreshing feel to this place. Probably because we are away from the intense heat and crowded places and in the open space. I immediately like it here.
That night we went for a curry meal. This would turn out to be the bain of my trip so far. The next day after having had breakfast, we were to do a tour. The highlands is famous for its tea farms. Today we would visit a plant farm, strawbbery farm, then a tea farm, then a bea one, butterfly farm and then a buddhist temple. Already before the trip had begun, i could feel my bowels going. Oh dear. Unfortunately, I only got to see the toilet facilities of the first four places, followed by a taxi home. And when i mean facilities, i mean a hole in the ground, hose pipe and dripping water from the celing. That afternoon it rained like it had never rained before, just to add to my experience. Fortunately i will get to see some of these places on Friday. Since then i have only eaten chocolate and crisps as i know that it can take that sort of rubbish. feeling a bit better in the evening, i watched the first and last films for the die hard trilogy. Good old Bruce hey. But i think i spoiled some a Germans couple romantic night in. they came into the televison room with a bottle of red wine. Then they saw me, with my box set of Mr Bruce Willis and walked out in a huff. Lol. Well, i think deserved it after the horrendous day i had had.
Today, i am feeling better and we went on a morning jungle trek with a guide from the hostel. We walked for about three hours, with the guide stopping a telling us about the wildlife. We didnt see a single soul throughout the trek, apart from a man meditating at the start. have a few cuts from falling on my arse as it was very slippery in parts. Really enjoyed myself. Tommorow we are going to do a more challenging trek to the highest peak here. We will also be going to see the biggest flower in the world, which happens to be in bloom at the moment. Cant wait. Saturday we are heading to Kuala lumpa for a night, then Singapore for four nights. This time next week we fly to Sydney. Still doesnt feel christmassy yet.
Adios my friends. Hope your enjoying the updates
