Saturday : overcast
Very happy about the decision to go for a walk yesterday afternoon, because the clouds rolled in over night.
We both had a pretty good sleep and after breakfast we jumped in the Kia and headed back into the Lake District. After an unsuccessful stop in the tourist information office, not finding any free maps, Kim went back online and found another walk.
It was in the same central west region as where we were yesterday, but on the other side and end of the Buttermere lake. We took the road in that we took out last night. This walk was 10kms and we did it in just over 3hrs. Killed it! It had fantastic views most of the way up, but the summit had the best of course! We were so close to Scafell Pike England's highest peak.
Once down we drove around to Derwert water, the districts largest lake, to have a well deserved rest and a picnic on a pebbly beach. On the drive back through Keswick we stopped at my other favorite town ambleside and picked up some drinks to have Ron.
We took a bit of a detour on the way home, we headed to the south west part of the district. Once past the big mountains, the scenery changed into a forestry environment, and then we got back into farmland. We stopped by Coniston lake to take in the last of the days rays and hills and of course knock back a couple ciders and snacks.
Once back at the hostel we had a couple more drinks out in the garden playing some cards before getting cleaned up for bed.
