Friday : Sunny
We had a lazy morning, but its ok because we only wanted to go inside the Kremlin today. We left the house and walked into town picking up some russian pies along the way for a yummy breakfast.
We went through red square and then through Alexander park to go check out the state of the ticket line. Well as predicted It was quite big, so we will come back in the afternoon. We just kept on walking down towards the river and came across a massive church with a pedestrian bridge leading over to the other side. They had a few food and drink stalls setup in the church square.
In one of the drink stalls they had different syrups to choose from, then to make up a drink they used the soda stream. Well they are everywhere and I gave creaming soda a go. Kim thought it was too strong after a couple sips. We only ended up going halfway over the bridge and from there we had a nice view back towards the Kremlin and the rest of Moscow.
We then walked over to a street that was mentioned in our walking tour yesterday. It was a pedestrians only strip, that had plenty of shops, restaurants and bars. That strip ended up leaded us back over to the Kremlin ticket office. Where the line had died down a fair bit, but it still took about 45-60min to buy the tickets and get through security.
Once inside we walked past an armory and concert hall into a large square and were surrounded by churches. the tallest one being Ivan the Greats bell tower. At 81m tall it was the tallest building in Russia for over 400yrs. Only two of the churches were opened which was a shame because judging by the church we went into, and it was really nice, so the others should be too. The Church was called Archangels Cathedral and was the necropolis for the Tsars of Russia until the capital moved to Saint Petersburg. It was painted in a similar style to Saint Basil's Cathedral, but it was like a coffin warehouse inside.
We then went over to the secret gardens to have a rest. I ended up having a bit of a nap I think. Not feeling too crash hot again today, the cold stepped it up a gear.
After the rest we finished off the walk through the gardens and went to look at the worlds largest bell at 202 tonne, that cracked before it was ever rung. There was the big never fired 40 tonne Tsar cannon its bigger than Mons Meg at Edinburgh castle but not quite as old misses out give or take 100yrs.
We then headed for the exit, don't know what my feelings are on the Kremlin, the gardens and that one church was very nice. I just thought it would be a bit more than what it was I suppose. A lot of it is closed off to the public too, because of it being still in use. But yeah I'm glad we went and that it wasn't expensive to get in. I definitely preferred St Basil's cathedral over the Kremlin though.
After the kremlin visit we went back to Stolovaya 57 and had a nice long drinks break then a meal with more drinks. It was a nice warm day today top of 30°C.
After dinner we stopped off at a grocery store to buy some breakfast for tomorrow. Then went home where we had the entire hostel to ourselves, so yeah we had a nice relaxing night in.
