Friday : overcast
Nothing like a 12 hour sleep and an awesome buffet breakfast to make you feel better. We smashed the buffet for over two hours, we had a lot of fruit including kiwis! Muesli and coffee, I had four cappas.
We then tried to chase up the where abouts of our luggage, Kim wrote half a dozen emails. We didn't get much out of the airline, the hotel reception was very helpful though. They were making our the phone calls, they found out that the bags would be arriving at Lisbon at 3pm, and he will make another call then.
We went to get a bite to eat for lunch, we had takeaway Portugese chicken and chips by the beach. There are plenty of beaches where we are staying and the waves were crashing into the walkway hard today. It must have been high tide. The surfers must have been loving it.
After the closest Ozzie thing we have done in awhile (chicken and chips on the beach), we went for a nice walk along a walkway past all the beaches. It was great, nice quiet and clean, the cobble stone streets and small lanes with shops made it nice to do some window shopping too. Lots of cafes and restaurants in the main part of town too, it felt great to be here.
It was time to head back to the hotel though, and see what reception has to say about our bags. Well the good news was that our bags are in Lisbon, the bad news is that we have to go back to the airport to open them up for customs. A return trip from the airport is around $40, ok if we have to spend that to get our bags back no problems. But there is a transportation strike going on and we are not sure when it's going to stop. The other option is to spend €70 on a taxi, our plan is to try and get public transport back to the airport tomorrow.
It's pretty annoying the airline isn't going to cough up the money to reimburse us for our transportation cost for what was their stuff up in the first place. Let's hope the transportation is up and running tomorrow, that will keep our cost low. Luckily we didn't follow through with our plan on going down to Lagos, that's 4-5hrs south by bus and costs €40 per person return.
It was time for dinner, we went down the road and had a nice warm pizza and wine dinner. It helped us stay up that little bit longer for our body clocks to adjust. After dinner we went and bought a bottle of water from a servo then went to bed. It was 11pm Lisbon time but about 4am Delhi time so we were feeling pretty tired.
