Friday : sunny
We had to change hotels today, we decided to do it sooner rather than later, and to get breakfast over near our new hotel. We checked out around 10am then hustled to central station to get a train over to Kowloon.
Another train was waiting for us, so efficient, on we hopped and off we went. We got to the hotel, checked in, I needed a freshen up after the pack walk, humid again today. Then we had a meal at a restaurant near the hotel. There are a lot that are close by. Big meal too, the restaurant wasn't overcrowded, the staff were helpful telling Kim how to eat her meal properly. It was a good restaurant, probably end up going back.
After lunch we took the train back under the river to the island again. Then took the 135m long street escalators, to the top streets of Hong Kong island. The streets heading away from the harbor get very steep because the city is built at the base of a mountain range. The escalators are a great idea, they have exits at every intersection they cross. They also run the other way, down the mountain for the morning rush to work. We came across a little super market tucked away between the high rises. We got some water, and a bottle of Mateus, and they had vegemite so that went into the basket also.
Once at the top we walked over to the peak tram, hoping it wasn't busy like yesterday. It wasn't thankfully, only a short line to get tickets and then a short wait for the tram. The tram felt like riding the train at the scenic railway at Katoomba. Very steep incline at parts. It was built by the Britts, for people to easily get out of the city and escape for the day. It's funny saying that, being still in the city, but yeah we did feel like we were out of the city it was very quiet.
Once at the end of the line we took some more escalators to the sky terrace, inside a building this time. Nice blue sky made good photos. The city is nothing but high rises. Its a good view up there. We were up there for awhile, and we could see that this wasn't the only thing to do up here at the peak. There's a shopping centre up here, with all sorts of shops and restaurants. Which was great to fill in time before the sun went down. Seemed to be a lot of walking paths too. The neons definitely come out at night, the buildings put on a show of their own, with all their different lights. There is also a light show everynight a 8pm. Not all that great to view from up at the peak.
After some more photos we went to leave but there was a massive crowd of people that wanted to do the same. So we just walked down the mountain and followed the signs. Along the walk we passed through the pub/club area. It was Friday night so it was pretty busy. The pubs had flowed out on to the streets, which get closed off at night time.
We got to central, and took another train back to Kowloon. The whole time on this walk everyshop was still open, even the big centers. We went into one near the hotel and it was weird, shopping at 10pm. Apparently they close at 11pm everynight, 7days a week. We picked up some snacks for the wine and went back to the hotel.
This hotel is as tight as the other one. Still no wifi, and they have taken the movie channel off the tele, so you have to buy one of their movies to watch.
The accommodation setup here is probably the only bad thing so far about Hong Kong. We have a big walk planned for tomorrow, my feet are sore already after the walks today.
