Helen reporting:
The Operating Theatre(OR) is an interesting Place. Our Back table is set up for the day with all our instrumentation and eye drapes. We then transfer the required instruments for each procedure.
All items are in sterilised containers. What I mean by that is the guaze, the Q-tips, and the eye drapes are in containers that look like pressure cookers, each of these is opened as required and the sterile items are removed using sterile tongs.
Cauterisation is old school. Dr. Ann heats up a sharp instrument over an open flame, until the instrument is red hot.Apparently very effective.
I am very impressed by the standards of perioperative care, at least 2 of the nurses, Margaret and Nicholas have completed an 18 month programme at Korle Bu in Accra.
