Hong Kong
Our first hostel in Hong Kong was on the 9th floor (over 200 steps) sadly there was no lift. The walk with our backpacks was horrible. The other walk ups weren't much better. On the first night we walked down the Main Street in Kowloon to the harbour. We went to a bar - which severed strongbow the first cider Iv had in months! We watched the light show on Hong Kong island, got lost in the most confusing shopping hall ever and got some street food along with a couple of beers. We headed back to the hostel. It's pretty hot here!!
A friend from home called Rob met us the next day. we went to the airport to meet him with a bouquet of flowers but he eluded us so we met him at the hostel. Went for some food and walked down to the harbour again. We found some bars (one with Thai 'ladies' so we left that one quickly).
When we got up the next day we found James lying in pain as he'd been eaten alive by bug. We got the cable car to see the Buddha statue - James and I have seen loads of these bloody things in China but was Robs first and was actually pretty cool.
On the way back from the Buddha we got the bus back down as there was a massive queue for the cable car. We got a bit lost (again). We basically got off at the wrong stop. This lead to the most dangerous walk either of us has taken. We ended up having to cross a few motorways by foot. It was pretty quiet so wasn't overly dangerous but appreciated the cold beer after!
The next day we moved to a new hostel as we couldn't get 3 beds together for all 5 nights in Hong Kong. It was the 26th bed we've stopped in over the past 50 days! We dropped off the bags and took a wonder up to the peak. It was a clear day, the views over Hong Kong were amazing. At night we got a few beers and head to the 10th floor of the hostel - the roof. We chatted til the early hours. Luckily we bought enough beer so we didn't have to climb back down to the ground floor.
The last day in Hong Kong was spent sampling happy hours in Hong Kong island - a very productive day! On the ferry back to Kowloon we met a fellow traveller also called Rob. We decided he was cooler than our friend Rob so adopted him instead! He'd been on the road for a year pretty much doing the same routes as us but backwards. We invited him for a few beers and talked about our travels. After a few beers we headed to the night market (pretty much can buy cheap fake products). After shopping we stopped for some street food where we met 3 German guys and proceeded to drink more beer. We said goodbye to our new friends and headed to the roof once again.
The next day we caught the ferry to Macau - a lot of Chinese people weren't very well and massively over dramatic about being ill as the Chinese tend to over dramatic about everything which is very annoying to say the least.
But anyway we got through customs and passport control (James now doesn't look like his passport photo and had the rubber glove treat - James calls it 'sweaty bumhole time') and found our hotel - first one of the trip! It was so nice compared to some places we stopped in before hand. We ordered room service, watched a bit of tv - first bit of tv in 2 months. Haven't really missed it but was nice to have some home comfort.
In the evening we took a walk down one of the strips. It's nothing on Vegas but still awesome-bigger money, less strippers. The hotels and Casinos are just as impressive but not so many of them and a lot less places sell beer. We walked passed a cinema and decided to watch 'the hobbit'.
The next day we walked down the other side of the strip and had a flutter. After a while we broke even so decided to stop. We found a off licence and decided to show Rob Baiju and the dice game. James lost again and drank half the bottle which ended the night (on a high for Rob and I)
On the last day in Macau we went to the other island to sample some of their casinos. We left mid afternoon and headed back to the hotel so Rob could go back to Hong Kong island and we could catch our flight to Bangkok (our first flight in 2months).
Once in Bangkok we found a taxi to our hotel. The taxi driver didn't go below 60mph the entire half hour journey.
