Woke up early to get on the road with plans to visit kicking horse resort to ride the gondola to the top and see the bear refuge. After our free breakfast (waffles again) we headed off and arrived to a kicking horse ghost town. Freezing cold, we walked around to closed shops and not a person in sight. Eventually we found 2 people walking around who told us it was only open fri, sat & sun this time of year.
Our next destination was takkakawa falls where the temp was even colder. We hiked a small trail to the falls which were beautiful and very large. The girls encountered their first pit toilets which went down well with Josie.
After turning on the ice field pathway road we started to notice small amounts of snow on the side of the road and at the park entrance there seemed to be more, even on the roof of the national park hut. The girls were desperate to get out and touch some and we took a little side road and found a few tiny patches to play in. It seemed to be a bit heavier in a couple of spots so we pulled over again for a snow ball fight. Isla didn't cope well with the cold and her shoes getting wet in the snow and was very sooky getting back in the car.
The next stop was bows peak lookout over bow river. We were never expecting anything so beautiful with so much snow. Isla refused to get out of the car so while wade and Josie hiked up to the lookout Elodie and I build a snow man in the bush next to the car where Isla watched a movie. The girls and I them hiked up to the most amazing pathway of deep snow and pine trees. This view was the most beautiful thing I've ever seen with snow everywhere, bright blue lake below and snow capped mountains in the background.
We continued on to the glacier view inn which are rooms built on the floor above the discovery centre where the glacier tours and skywalk leave from. It was colder again here and as we pulled up it seemed to be snowing very lightly.
After checking into our room which was quite large with a loft section for the two big girls, we headed out to dinner at the only dining option for hundreds of km's. The restaurant seemed nice and since we were starving we went all out with starter, main and dessert. What a disappointment with elodies $20 burger just awful, an average but expensive steak for Josie and I and wades chicken not too bad. Poor elz couldn't eat hers so we swapped. The girls and wade all enjoyed dessert while we sat overlooking the Athabaska glacier and the snow getting heavier.
