hello!
it's been a while, but we're still alive! no worries!
we hit bangkok on May 20th and experienced as much as we needed to! not bad, just done... we got in at night and checked out Khao San road, which is the equivalent to Sixth Street but with less Longhorns and more LadyBoys....
the next day we grabbed some breakfast and saw the Ghostbusters cracking down at a park across the street (check out the photo)! Bangkok is huge, but very easy to maneuver. after breakfast, dodging offers for tours and ping-pong shows, we headed to the zoo. on the way we walked through a local market selling everything from houseshoes to live snakes/frogs/turtles/vegetables. headed on and saw two HUGE monitor lizards in a small canal running through some office buildings (photos)! we thought that was quite a site, but of course no one else did. the zoo was nice--ran into some girls we had shared a cab with from the airport... ended up running into them about three more times that day, finally decided we'd all meet up later on purpose. hung out with them and two guys from Kenya that are acrobats performing at the zoo for a number of months.
the next day we headed to the train station to head up north to Chaing Mai. took a sleeper train, which was the most comfortable bed I've slept in since we left San Francisco.
more Chaing Mai update to come.... hope all is well with everyone there! love--cat (& matt)
