A part of the Indian Republic known to be inhabited from the Neolithic times, Ladakh is the the highest plateau of the state of Jammu and Kashmir. It spans the Himalayan and the Karakoram ranges and the upper Indus river valley. Ladakh, one of the three important parts of the state of Jammu and Kashmir is also the highest altitude desert in India as the Himalayas create a rain shadow and block the entry of the monsoon clouds.
Apart from Leh, the capital of Ladakh, Ladakh has three beautiful lakes- the Pangong Lake, the Tso Moriri Lake and the Tsokar Lake. The Tsokar Lake is the smallest lake in Ladakh. The Tsokar Lake is situated in the Rupsa Valley around 240 kilometers to the Southeast of Leh. It is nearly 8 kilometers wide and 28 kilometers long. It is a salt water lake. Situated at an altitude of 4500 kilometers, Tsokar Lake lies in proximity of Tso Moriri Lake that is just 50 kilometers away. This lake is really a beautiful and must see lake in Ladakh.
