I spent a relaxing few days in Beirut after completing the trail. It was nice not to have a plan or a list of things and a schedule to stick to to see them all. I walked around seeing some art galleries and was impressed with the Marwan exhibition at the Beirut Exhibition Centre, see pics. It was nice just walking around and getting a feel for the place. I did a nice walk all the way from downtown west past the American University to the coast. It took me from some fairly snooty inner urban settings around Beirut Souks past what looked to be the parliament building, a Greek Orthodox church on the hill and then through a good section of hustle and bustle down to a more Muslim seeming area by the sea. I sat and had a late lunch looking at the waves, eating grills just like I'd expect to have in Kuwait. I also bought a bunch of books (Walden Two, Beware Small States amongst others) and enjoyed veging out in a cafe just reading. Haven't properly relaxed like that in a long while.
And no car bombs went off, so I was happy.
