The beautiful thing about trains is that they let me see all the parts of America I'm not interested in. Not interested enough to visit at any rate. Now I'll get to say that I've at least seen Battlecreek and Kalamazoo without suffering the indignity of actually going there. We almost didn't make the train, truth be told. We were held up at the border for a time by America's finest. Apparently they couldn't believe Americans would spend that much time on Amtrak. it took us twenty minutes to convince that not only were we actually traveling by train but we were doing it on purpose. But then, maybe Detroit is considered a major target. It certainly looks like it's been bombed more than once.
