thought i had updated by phone. left seattle with no crashes and got on highway with only one honk. stopped at ihop for lunch. arrived in portland 3 hours after lunch amidst big queues and no map. david had to guess, got lost, saw interesting parts of portland, asked for directions, finally made it to motel. heavy rain, got soaked getting stuff to room. earlier it was stormy looking and gales and i worried about tornados. david scoffed. once in room, turned on telly and ... tornado warning. ha ha. went to dinner in nice steakhouse then went to bookshop that spans a whole block. it was amazing.
