Hello all!!
Sorry for poor blogging - you would not believe how hard it is to find an internet connection/cafe!!
Well, lots to report since last entry which was weeks ago!! We had lots of fun in Yellowstone, saw more buffalo, moose and even a beaver and an elk at sunset which was cool. From Yellowstone we went down through the Tetons to Jackson, Wyoming. Such a cool place with wooden boardwalks. Had amazing ice-cream and take out pizza there! Next morning we went to Jedadiah's House of Sourdough - FYI sourdough pancakes not so great!! From here we went down into Utah and ended up staying in a town called Vernal. Weird is all I have to say.
From here we went East to a town called Dinosaur - unfortunately the big quarry with fossils was closed so we continued on into and down through a part of Colorado and then back into Utah. Very few towns and we decided to go off the beaten track on a smaller road to Moab. So glad we did - drove through a small canyon next to the Colorado river. Stunning. Pictures at a later date when I can upload! Arrived in Moab and stopped for lunch at a very nice restaurant. Drove on to Bluff where we were thinking of staying - nearly drove through it was so small. In the end, decided to push on to Flagstaff - getting us a day ahead of ourselves. Arrived Flagstaff about 10pm after 12 hour drive! Checked into motel and decided next day was a free day for laundry and relaxing - which included massive ice cream from Baskin and Robbins. Yum.
After rest day, we went to the Grand Canyon. I woke up with a swollen face which was weird. Didn't feel great the entire day which kind of meant I didn't enjoy the canyon as much as I had hoped. Still amazing but not a great day. Next day I woke up and still had a swollen face so we got a trip to the Doctors! Turned out could have been an allergic reaction so got some pills and then we were on our way to Vegas!!
Arrived in Vegas without too much trouble and a nice trip over the Hoover Dam and checked into the Luxor - on the Strip, very cheap - and treated ourselves to an upgrade - suite with Jacuzzi!! Brilliant. Booked tickets for Penn and Teller show and a couple of hours later were at the Rio watching it. Absolutely brilliant! After the show we walked the Strip - I loved it, David not so much. In total we gambled $3 and went to bed at 3am!
From Vegas we drove to San Diego. Stopped in a proper 50s diner on the way which was great. Got to San Diego and checked into Motel 6 for 4 nights. Had 1 awful dinner and one ok dinner in same night and then to bed. Next day we went to the Zoo which was brilliant if very tiring. Decided to go to Seaworld the next day and then back to the Zoo the day after. Seaworld actually alright in the end and the Zoo was still amazing second time around. Found a brilliant restaqurant in Little Italy - ate there twice - and ate ate David's parent's friend's restaurant one night - also delicious.
From San Diego we went up the coast to Santa Monica - driving in California is STRESSFULL!!! Motels very expensive and at the cheaper one out of time we drove in on a police incident so we turned right back around! Drove to Venice boardwalk, looked round and had dinner before heading the rest of the way to Santa Barbara as more places to stay.
Had a lovely day at the beach in Santa Barbara - just relaxed. Nice dinner too - not so nice drive back to Motel. They'd closed a road so we got very lost trying to find a different route!!
From Santa Barbara we drove to Morro which was a tiny town, a big volcanic rock and a nice beach. Had pizza which was nice and then back to motel. In the morning we found the boardwalk we'd missed the night before - doh. Oh well. After quick breakfast it was on to Monterey up the Big Sur!
Drive was amazing if slow and we saw Californian Condors flying - wild ones right next to where we were standing. Breathtaking! Didn't have as much time as we thought so didn't do any Redwood walks, though a lot was closed due to fire damage anyway. Arrived in Monterey and found a relatively cheap motel in town which was good. Ended up in an English Theme pub for dinner - food excellent!
Today David went whale watching while I went riding. I saw deer and baby deer, sea lions and various birds. David saw dolphins, humpbacks, sea lions etc but no blue whales unfortunately. Still, we both had fun respectively. Relaxed for the rest of the day and went back to the same pub for dinner. Both had eyes bigger than our tummies but the great thing here is you can box it up to eat later on!
Tomorrow we plan on the aquarium here before heading to Santa Cruz as there's a blues festival starting and the rate hits $150. After Santa Cruz we're off to San Fran and our last few days. This may be the last update until I get home so I'll sign off and hopefully get some photos up soon (may be when I get home though!!). Bye for now
