The temperature here is really pleasant, kind of that
jeans and t-shirt weather, shorts if your feeling
particularly brave. Hong Kong is one of the craziest
cities I've been to and that's saying something.
Unlike most cities there doesn't seem to be a heart to
it unless I've missed it of course which is quite
possible as it's impossible to find anything. You
will see somewhere and think that would be nice for
lunch tomorrow but try to find the place again the
next day and it seems to have vanished into mid air.
Now I'm normally not bad at navigating around cities
I've had a lot of practice of late but this one has
got me beat. The fact that everything's in Chinese
doesn't help but mainly it's because it's so spread
out. The city is on 3 different levels for gods sake.
There's your normal street level, then there's your
underground shopping and eating and then there's a
level above street level where there's a whole other
world, how does a girl stand a chance? I just rode on
an escalator outside above the city, like I said
crazy. It's like a massive china town set within a
sprawling metropolis. A great place to get lost
however and as I'm officially lost in translation it's
a good place to be. It has all the same facilities any
other international city has to offer. All the same
fast food outlets hell it even has Marks and Spencers
and Clarkes, I find myself going off in search of my
daily cup of Starbucks sold to me in that generic red
Christmas cup with the snowflakes on and I find myself
walking though soullessly shopping malls at 12.30am
because you can in Hong Kong. God I feel compelled to
get a group of random people together from my hotel to
go down to the Karaoke Box and sing songs by Bryan
Ferry. Or maybe I just don't know what do to with
myself because I'm getting a British airways flight in
a couple of hours back to London Town and I'm
wondering what that transition period will be like.
All the places I've been and people I've met, like
Bernie the Bubble Blowing Banana how could I ever be
the same and the lights of Vegas seem so long ago now.
Since then I've surfed Hawaaii, chilled in beautiful
Fiji, travelled the picturesque but cold New Zealand,
I feel like I'm writing the link for a Chicago song in
an 80's movie. Well it's time to face the music I
guess, I hope London hasn't forgotten me already and I
hope it's not too cold I suppose I will find out soon
enough. Thanks for all your messages and all the
people who have told me how much they are enjoying
hearing about my adventures, I suppose this is it for
me really, nothing more to report except I will keep
this page open for a while and I will add the rest of
my pictures in the next few days cause I know some of
you have been asking. So umm yeah well I will see you
on the other side and for those of you that I won't.
Merry Christmas.
