Hard to believet that we have been in Seattle for a week now! Time is going way too fast!
The day started slowly with me finishing my homework for my P3 online class and preparing for the Sprouts class that I am teaching at Metro. The latter has been a challenge as I am engaging with my co-teachers and students through Zoom. I will be back in the classroom with everyone when I return from Seattle late next week. Once the work was done, it was time to play!
We are so glad that we bought the City Pass! This enables us to visit major Seattle landmarks for a huge discount and to not feel like we needed to stay all day! I would highly recommend City Pass for visitng Seattle or any major city. Today's adventures: Chihuilly Gardena and Glass and the Space Needle!
We checked the bus schedule and off we went. We changed busses in Green Lake right in front of my favorite store: Title Nine! Serendipidous! Unfortunately, the bus schedule did not build in time to visit, so I had to just admire from across the street. Grace was keeping us in line! :)
Chihuilly Garden and Glass was first on our stop. Wow! The glass intertwined with the beautifuly gardens is simply breathtaking. How does he get it SO right? Inside, we enjoyed seeing the installments (that is what Dale Chihuilly calls his displays) and learning more about the artist, who interestingly is from Washington state! My favorite piece is the orange chandelier you will see in the photos from today - I walked away and was drawn back to this piece over and over. The best was standing right beneath it looking up as if into the sun; such happiness! The flowers in the garden were so unusualy and on my next visit, I would like to learn more about them.
It was time to rejuvinate so off we went to find a new little coffee shop. That's not a tall task in Seattle! We found our spot and each had our standard afternoon pick-me-up: Grace, dirty iced chai and a latte for me. Soon, we were ready to roll....
The Space Needle was our next stop. The Observation Deck sits 530' above the ground. As many of you know about me - I am not a fan or heights, so I was not sure how this was going to go! Lol! The lines were short, so before we knew it, we were in a glass front elevator , packed in like sardines (me, pressed face-out against the glass), headed to the top. Wow - I kept my eyes open MOST of the way! The elevator let us out into a center room, much like the Empire State Building. From there, the observation deck was available. Out we went to the 6' wide deck with plexiglass about nose height all around. Oddly, I was fine and could even approach the edge to take pictures of this fabulous city! It was so fun to be up there now after knowing the city a little better. We even saw our kayak route from Saturday!
Now, take me out to the ballgame! We met Claire at Safeco Field after work to see the Mariners take on the Phillies. What fun! The stadium is so nice and kind of has a Huntington Field vibe. I would have said that it was small, but research told me that about 48000 can attend a game! That is bigger than Great American, but it sure didn't feel like it. We enjoyed some good ballpark food and a good start to the game. The Mariners took the lead with a homerun in the third. Things were looking good until the 6th when the Phillies came on! We left as they took the lead and thank goodness we did as the final score was 8-2, Phillies! We knew that we had a long light rail and bus ride back to Claire's, so we headed out and arrived back at her place around 11. Late night since it was a "school night" for her!
Goodnight Seattle!
